  1.  INSTALLATION PROBLEMS ?
  2.  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  3.   When you run INSTALL.EXE, the files 0202TER1._XE and
  4.   0202TER2._XE (and, optionally, other files 0202TER?._XE)
  5.   all need to be in the same directory.
  6.  
  7.   If you encounter any problems with our low level
  8.   installation routines (music, screen, etc,) then:
  9.  
  10.   1)   run     INSTALL.EXE /NOINTRO      instead...
  11.  
  12.   OR
  13.  
  14.   2)   Try rebooting with a `vanilla flavour'  CONFIG.SYS
  15.        and AUTOEXEC.BAT with no TSRs and making sure that
  16.        you specify at least Files=40
  17.  
  18.  
  19.   If INSTALL.EXE finished work, but you're having problems
  20.   starting TERM.EXE, then try to run TERM.EXE with appropriate
  21.   parameters:
  22.  
  23.          /NOEMS  - to disable EMS usage
  24.   and/or
  25.          /NOXMS  - to disable XMS usage
  26.   and/or
  27.          /FASTCONFIG[=port[,speed]] - to pass through all the
  28.                                       configuration questions
  29.                                       and configure Terminate
  30.                                       manually (by setting the
  31.                                       port, bps, etc, etc)
  32.  
  33.   or run T.BAT ? for available command-line switches.
  34.  
  35.  
  36.  MEMORY REQUIREMENTS
  37.  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  38.  Terminate needs at least 550k of conventional (`below 640k')
  39.  free memory to run.
  40.  (2MB extended or expanded memory can be used when you shell out
  41.  and is, therefore, highly recommended but will not remove the
  42.  REQUIREMENT for at least 550k of conventional (`below  640k')
  43.  memory so use another terminal program if you can not achieve
  44.  this minimum figure!)
  45.  
  46.  If you load Terminate using the /DBG switch you will be able to
  47.  keep an eye on memory useage...
  48.

  50.  MOUSE PROBLEMS ?
  51.  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  52.  Try toggling PECULIAR MOUSE in CHANGE CONFIGURATION, TOGGLES
  53.  ( [ALT][O], [T], toggle Peculiar mouse on/off )

  56.  PROBLEMS IN MULTITASKING ENVIRONMENTS
  57.  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  58.  Absence of an adequate FIFO Chip (eg: 16550 UART) may cause
  59.  problems with data loss (refer to further technical
  60.  documentation...)
  61.  
  62.  If you experience Screen corruption or data loss even with an
  63.  adequate FIFO, then try using FOSSIL (such as Ray Gwinn's SIO
  64.  for OS/2 Warp) or increase the VDM session priority.
  65.  
  66.  Unexpected CARRIER DROP - try to increase session priority or
  67.  try to use a FOSSIL driver instead of direct COM port access.
  68.  
  69.  
  70.  DATA LOSS PROBLEMS UNDER DOS
  71.  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  72.  Problems may also occur when running Terminate on 'slow' computers
  73.  or if the Terminate overlay file is not able to be  loaded into EMS
  74.  or XMS.
  75.  These problems relate to Terminate's internal 'multitasking'
  76.  kernel and are similar to problems in a multitasking environment.
  77.  
  78.  Our suggestions are:
  79.   1. Do not open windows other than the terminal window before and
  80.      during file transfers
  81.   2. Try to increase the input buffer size in Communication setup,
  82.      Receive Buffer Size:
  83.      [Alt][O], [C], select device, [Enter], [R]
  84.   3. Try to decrease Baud:
  85.      [Alt][O], [C], select device, [Enter], [B]

  90.  If you are using an 83-keys keyboard, Change  Enhanced keyboard
  91.  setting in toggles:
  92.  [Alt][O], [T], Enhanced keyboard OFF

  95.  UNRESOLVED PROBLEM(S)
  96.  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  97.  If you STILL have problems, check out the comms gurus on your local
  98.  BBS or the various nets.
  99.  
  100.  But NOT before you have tried a `vanilla flavoured' system:
  101.  
  102.  1) Create backup and archived copies of your original AUTOEXEC.BAT
  103.     and CONFIG.SYS files
  104.  
  105.  2) Edit both files to remark out ALL lines that are not ABSOLUTELY
  106.     VITAL to boot your system: especially TSR's and Soundblaster
  107.     drivers and including memory management software such as QEMM.
  108.     (type "rem " at the beginning of each line you wish to render
  109.     temporarily operational)
  110.  
  111.     Make sure, though, that you have a
  112.     Files=25
  113.     statement (25 is the absolute minimum number of file handles
  114.     needed) and, of course, whatever keyboard driver you need. Remove
  115.     the mouse driver at this point, though.
  116.  
  117.  3) Reboot your system and Terminate should run OK.
  118.  
  119.  4) Reinstate each line you previously remarked out until you discover
  120.     the culprit line that causes hiccups anew.
  121.  
  122.  
  123.     If the unpack procedure completed normally, and you've tried all
  124.     the advice above, but you STILL have problems, then please run
  125.     REPORT.BAT ? to create a report file for us.
