  5. BEFORE YOU CONTINUE

  7.   You should have run MUSICZIP.EXE in some temporary directory on your
  8.   hard disk such as C:\TEMP.  It is safe to run it from the root directory 
  9.   (C:\) but you should not run it from the MUSIC directory you plan to install
  10.   MUSIC into (usually C:\MUSIC).  INSTALL.BAT will place all the files in the
  11.   proper MUSIC directory for you then delete the installation files (except
  12.   for MUSICZIP.EXE).  If you are running INSTALL.BAT from within your new
  13.   MUSIC directory then press ^C to stop the installation now and move the
  14.   install files to a temporary directory like C:\TEMP.

  16. UPGRADING?
  17. ~~~~~~~~~~
  18.   If you are upgrading from an earlier version of MUSIC then continue with
  19.   this installation process, using the same MUSIC directory that you used
  20.   with the older version.  If you are prompted to replace a file that already
  21.   exists, be sure to answer Y)es.  You will be asked if you want the demo
  22.   files which include a new MUSIC.CFG, *.PC (printer config files),
  23.   *.MUS (actual song files) and MUSIC.DWR (song drawer file).  Depending on
  24.   what version of MUSIC you are upgrading from you will want to select only
  25.   some or none of these demo files.  This will be explained during the
  26.   installation process.

  28. PURPOSE
  29. ~~~~~~~
  30.   MUSIC is a ShareWare program designed to keep track of song lyrics and
  31.   chords.  It only runs under MS-DOS (or a DOS shell under Windows or OS/2).
  32.   Although it is written to help guitar players, it can be useful to others.
  33.   For a quick summary of what MUSIC is, take a look at the file SUMMARY.TXT
  34.   which explains what MUSIC is and does.  For a quick list of what makes
  35.   v3.3 better than previous versions look at the file UPDATES.TXT.

  37. SHAREWARE
  38. ~~~~~~~~~
  39.   Please read REGISTER.TXT for info about the ShareWare concept and
  40.   registration information.  As a ShareWare program, you are free
  41.   to try MUSIC and give copies to anyone you want (as long as you give them the
  42.   full MUSICZIP.EXE file).  If you decide to use MUSIC then please register it.
  43.   Registration can be as low as $15 and you will be placed on the MUSIC mailing
  44.   list for future updates and miscellaneous news (not a junk-mail list).

  47. SONG FILES
  48. ~~~~~~~~~~
  49.   Due to Copyright legal issues I am only releasing a couple of songs at this
  50.   time since I don't have many songs that are not (c).  This means you're on
  51.   your own with entering songs.  I did include, however, a love song I wrote
  52.   for my wife (call me sentimental).  I also included some really old
  53.   traditional Christmas carols to let you have fun.

  55. MANUAL INSTALLATION

  57.   If the installation program fails ("out of environment space" could cause the
  58.   installation directory to be messed up) do the installation yourself.  Full
  59.   instructions for how to do this are in the INSTALL.TXT file.

  63.   If you really want to know the details of how MUSIC data files are formatted
  64.   you can reference the text file FILE_FMT.TXT.  Most of you could care less.

  66.   If you were able to print the manual then please read the section under
  67.   "Quick Tour" and "Registration Info".  If you were unable to print the
  68.   manual then print out the registration info text file and read it...
