  13.   <p class="calibre2">In my mind the reason people start reading e-books as opposed to physical
  14.   books (pBooks) is due to e-book readers. That's precisely why I started
  15.   collecting e-books. Calibre has full support for a wide variety of e-book
  16.   readers. In total, calibre currently supports over 30 e-book readers. Yep,
  17.   over 30. Everything from eInk devices like the Kindle, Sony and Nook to cell
  18.   phones.</p>

  20.   <h3 class="ch-lvl1" id="task4.1">4.1: Putting an e-book on your e-book
  21.   reader</h3>

  23.   <p class="calibre2">Connect your e-book reader to your computer, and start calibre if it's
  24.   not already running.. If your device is supported by calibre a reader icon
  25.   will appear next to the library in the white box above the search area.
  26.   Clicking the reader icon will switch the main book list from your library to
  27.   a listing of e-books on your connected device. If you want to send an e-book
  28.   to your device just switch back to your library, select the book and click
  29.   'Send to device' in the top tool bar. It really is that simple. Another
  30.   often-used feature is to select a book on the device and click the 'Remove
  31.   books' button in the top tool bar, removing the e-book from your e-book
  32.   reader.</p>

  34.   <p class="calibre2">Once you've finished refreshing the e-book content stored on your device
  35.   hover your mouse over the reader icon for your connected device. You will
  36.   see an eject icon (upward-pointing triangle inside a circle) next to the
  37.   mouse pointer. Clicking the eject icon disconnects your e-book reader from
  38.   the computer.</p>

  40.   <h3 class="ch-lvl1" id="task4.2">4.2: E-book reader optional
  41.   configuration</h3>

  43.   <p class="calibre2">There are a number of different ways you can configure calibre to
  44.   interact with your device, but I'm only going to touch on the two most
  45.   common.</p>

  47.   <p class="calibre2">Open up 'Preferences', go to 'Add/Save' and select the 'Sending to device'
  48.   tab. Here you can customize the save template. If you have experience with
  49.   music tagging programs where you can create custom save locations this
  50.   should look very familiar. The save template can be customized to change
  51.   where e-books are saved on your device. If you have a device like the Kindle
  52.   or Sony Reader this isn't very useful and can safely be left with the
  53.   default settings. If you have a device like the Cybook Gen 3 that supports
  54.   folders this is extremely useful. There are a number of variables
  55.   (descriptions under the template) which can be used to change where the
  56.   books are saved. Lets look at a basic example, ΓÇ£favorites/{title} ΓÇô
  57.   {authors}ΓÇ¥. {title} will be replaced with the title of the book, {authors}
  58.   will be replaced with its author and the book will be put into the favorites
  59.   folder. All of the replacements that can be made in the save template are
  60.   listed with descriptions under the entry area.</p>

  62.   <p class="calibre2">Another useful configuration change is disabling and reorganizing the
  63.   supported formats. Let's use the Cybook Gen 3 (my primary reader) again as
  64.   an example. In 'Preferences', Plugins, Device Interface plugins, select the
  65.   Cybook Gen 3 Device Interface and click customize plugin. The first thing in
  66.   the configuration for the device is the format list. Here you can uncheck
  67.   formats you don't want sent to your e-book reader. You can also reorder the
  68.   formats. The format at the top of the list will be the one used for
  69.   automatic conversion when sending an e-book in an unsupported (or unchecked)
  70.   format to the device.</p>
