- WARLORDS II SCENARIO BUILDER NOTES
- ------------------------------------
-
- SAVE - SAVE - SAVE
- ---------------------
-
- When creating a scenario take the time out to save the file at
- regular intervals. Army and city set manipulations are particularly
- memory intensive and you should save before starting these. When
- you have completed a section of work it is recommended that you use
- PACKSCEN to create a SZP file so that the work you have completed
- is backed up. When you finish a scenario save the SZP file to a
- disk and place it in a safe place. Remember that if in doubt, SAVE.
-
-
- HARD DISK REQUIRMENTS
- ---------------------
-
- The SCENARIO BUILDER requires about 9 megabytes of hard disk space
- in addition to that taken up by Warlords II. A standard scenario will
- take about 100K without city or army sets.
-
- MEMORY REQUIREMENTS
- -------------------
-
- The Warlords II Scenario Builder requires 600Kb of free memory. If
- you have less than this then the program will attempt to run but
- there is a danger that the program will find it hard to keep
- operating. If it does have problems it will announce that it is
- having memory problems and return you to DOS. You can then use
- memmaker or create a boot disk to free up additional memory.
-
- WARLORDS II UPGRADED
- --------------------
-
- Warlords II needs version 1.10 or higher to run the SCENARIO
- BUILDER. A number of improvements have been included. Note that
- razing cities is now an option. In the random game you can now
- select from normal, ice or mud terrain and select the army, city
- and shield sets of your choice. The installion process will not
- delete your save game files as stated in Page 5 of the manual as
- they are still compatible with version 1.10.
- NOTE: To quickly start a game at the Warlords level hit the 'I am
- the Greatest' button twice. Now all the players are Warlords.
- Double clicking on the player of your choice will allow you to get
- the game underway.
-
-
- LOST SCENARIOS
- --------------
-
- When the SCENARIO BUILDER installs it takes a 'best guess' at the
- number of scenarios that are currently in your system. This could
- cause a scenario to appear to be 'lost' to the system .
- This happens when you install scenarios before you install the
- scenario builder. When you type WARSCEN to start the SCENARIO
- BUILDER, it looks through your system and rebuilds the scenario
- file in alphabetical order.
-
-
- STARTUP PROBLEMS
- ----------------
-
- The startup procedure to the SCENARIO BUILDER uses a new
- programming method that was not part of the original WARLORDS II.
- If you experience any problems at all on startup, you can just skip
- the startup procedure and go straight to the SCENARIO BUILDER by
- typing:
- CD WARLORD2 [ENTER]
- WARSCEN1 [ENTER]
- If you do experience any startup problems, please contact SSG
- technical support at the addresses shown at the end of this manual.
-
-
- ARMIES
- ------
-
- Armies now use the word DEFAULT rather than STANDARD in the game
- and SCENARIO BUILDER. This is to be consistent with the city and
- shield sets but is different from the manual.
-
-
- PACKSCEN ADDITION
- -----------------
-
- PACKSCEN, in addition to the -c and -a switches, also has a -s
- switch attached to it to disable the shield set that has been
- attached to the scenario.
-
-
- NAMES
- -----
-
- Some legal names may be so long that they overwrite the area
- allocated in the game screen dialogs. These do not cause the system
- any problems but can look untidy. It is best to check the names of
- cities etc. in the game to see if this has occurred.
-
-
- DELETING ARMY AND CITY SETS
- ---------------------------
-
- Deleting a scenario does NOT get rid of city or army sets attached
- to the scenario as they may be used by another scenario.
-
-
- CREATION HINTS
- --------------
-
- Make temple allies fly as quests are often completed over water and
- if there are no flying armies to be given the system will reward
- the player in another way.
- Do not make ruins and cities only accessible by air. The AI does
- not like it although it will try its best.
- Make sure that you make a cheap, fast flying army in any new army
- set as players using the hidden map option do not want to be
- handicapped.
-
-
- SWITCHES
- --------
-
- The following switches are available when you play Warlords II
- To use them, type them after the name "WARSCEN",
- e.g. type "WARSCEN x" to use extended (rather than expanded) memory.
-
- 'x' Use extended memory
- 'h' Do not use expanded or extended memory
-
-
- ILLURIA
- -------
-
- The Illuria scenario was published in Run 5 Issue 20. When
- installing the SCENARIO BUILDER this scenario is updated and can be
- used. However, if you install this scenario from a Run 5 disk after
- the SCENARIO BUILDER has been installed then:
- 1. Create a new scenario called Illuria from the SCENARIO BUILDER.
- 2. Install the scenario overwriting the dummy one using ADDSCEN.
-
-
- TROUBLE-SHOOTING
- ----------------
-
- 1. Sound
-
- Sound is only included as part of the start up sequence and is
- not included in the SCENARIO BUILDER.
-
- 2. The Game Will Not Run
-
- Make sure you have 600 Kb of free memory. Check this
- with the MEM command. Type MEM at the DOS prompt and you will
- be told "Largest Executable Program Size: XXX K". If "XXX" is
- less than 600, you will need to free up some memory (refer to
- your DOS manual).
-
- Make sure you have installed the sound for the correct
- Sound Card. For example, if you have an Adlib card and you
- select PAS sound, the game will not run.
- Type INSTALL to re-install your sound or type WARSCEN1 to start
- the SCENARIO BUILDER without the startup sequence.
-
-
- 3. I Don't Get Any Sound in the startup sequence!
-
- Make sure you have installed the sound for the correct
- Sound Card. For example, if you have an Adlib card and you
- select PAS sound, the game will not run.
- Type INSTALL to re-install your sound,
-
- If you have a Sound Blaster, make sure you have set
- the correct MEMORY/IRQ/DMA settings. The install program should
- automatically detect these values - if in doubt, use this program's
- suggestions.
