  4. Here's a quick review of the features of ZipNews for Waffle:
  5.  
  6.   * Offers high-speed, efficient access to Usenet newsgroups for callers
  7.     of Waffle BBSs (as a Door or Waffle "external command").
  8.  
  9.   * Produces one of two downloadable formats:  (1) an ASCII text file of
  10.     all new articles contained in newsgroups listed in the caller's Waffle
  11.     JOIN file, OR (2) a "packet" containing all the new articles in a
  12.     format supported by the soon-to-be-released ZipNews Reader (and Mailer
  13.     in the registered form of that program).
  14.  
  15.   * Also accepts news packets created offline by the registered form of
  16.     the ZipNews Reader/Mailer and posts them under control of Waffle's
  17.     RNEWS program.
  18.  
  19.   * New OPTIONAL Features!  The registered version of the ZipNews Door
  20.     supports access and transfer to the caller his/her personal mail as
  21.     received on the Waffle system.  The mail operations also include
  22.     acceptance of uploaded mail composed on the registered form of the
  23.     ZipNews Reader/Mailer.  The uploaded mail is processed under control
  24.     of Waffle's RMAIL program.  Mail operations are NOT supported by the
  25.     unregistered form of the ZipNews Door.
  26.  
  27.   * Also can serve as a PCBoard Door on systems that are running Waffle as
  28.     a door under PCBoard.  That is, it is accessed directly from PCBoard
  29.     without requiring the caller to log into Waffle each call.
  30.  
  31.   * ZipNews is SHARE-compatible, and supports multi-node operation
  32.     (unlimited simultaneous BBS node access).
  33.  
  34.   * Allows complete system operator and caller freedom in specifying and
  35.     selecting from archiver utilities and file transfer protocols.
  36.     System operator can configure choices of up to 5 different archiving
  37.     utilities and up to 10 file transfer protocols.  (Limits are pretty
  38.     arbitrary; will increase if there is demand.)
  39.  
  40.   * Handy "local" mode of operation to support system operator testing.
  41.  
  42.   * Individual caller configurations are "remembered" for reference
  43.     during subsequent calls.
  44.  
  45.   * Supports RAMDISK work directories for speed and easing the burden
  46.     on hard drives.  A different directory for each BBS node can be
  47.     specified using a single entry in one config file.
  48.  
  49.   * Complete comm port support built-in.  Supports non-standard comm
  50.     ports.  Disables FOSSIL communications to use its own comm
  51.     routines.  (FOSSIL comm is "reset" upon return to Waffle in the
  52.     normal way.)   CAUTION: Will not work with multi-port boards
  53.     requiring special drivers (e.g., DIGIBOARD, ARNET, etc.).

  55.   * Includes carrier monitoring & keyboard timeout monitoring.  Returns
  56.     to BBS in the event of lost carrier or keyboard timeout (3 mins.).
  57.  
  58.   * No fancy graphics in normal operation -- compatible with any/all
  59.     caller platforms -- similar to Waffle in this regard (i.e.,
  60.     boringly plain!).
  61.  
  62.   * No charge for upgrades to future versions.  (Once you have a
  63.     registration number, it may be applied to all future upgrades.)

  65.  Registration COST: $19.95
  66.  
  67. Distributed as uncrippled, fully functional SHAREWARE for news access,
  68. there are no limits on the number of newsgroups handled, number of
  69. articles, etc.   To encourage registrations we are now offering mail
  70. processing operations in the registered version only.
