- 1. What is FAM/2 ?
- ==================
-
- FAM/2 is an answering machine and a build in faxprogram.
- Also datacommunication is in FAM/2 implemented
- On this moment the program works fine whit ZyXEL-Modems as the
- most modems with a Rockwell-Chipset.
- FAM/2 is a real 32-Bit-Multithreading-PM-Program
- Fax-, Date- and Voice- messages are treated different: FAM/2 knows
- when answering a call if it is voice, data or fax.
- With the FAM/2 faxviewer you can look and work with received faxes,
- you don't need other software. You can also use faxview for converting
- faxes to BMP format an to print them to your favorite printer.
- FAM/2 has faxpoll functions and can be used as a fax polling machine.
-
- FAM/2 supports WAV, VOC and ZVD/RVD voice formats.
- (Rockwell-Users -> see Point 9).
- Incoming voice messages you can play on phoneline, modemspeaker
- or soundcard (MMPM/2)
-
-

- 4. Installation
- ===========
-
- The installation of FAM/2 is very simple. Just type INSTALL on an OS/2
- prompt being in the directory where you unpacked the FAM.ZIP file.
-
- You can make objects in the startup folder, the desktop or choose for
- no objects. After a few seconds FAM/2 will be installed and you will
- get a the main notebook of the program to set the correct settings.
- When you have an older version of the program only the program will be
- overwritten and the setting files will be intact.
-
- FAM/2 does not make changes to your config.sys file and does not
- register any WPS classes. All the data wich are needed for the program
- will be in the directory FAM or the directory you designed.
-
- 5. Manual -Light- (See also the online manual)
- ======================================
-
- After the first time you start the program all settings that the program
- needs has to be adjusted to make FAM/2 work properly.
- You can edit this notebook when you want to click with the right mouse
- or CTRL-E when FAM/2 is active.
- Also you can move the FAM/2 window and give it another color and
- another font. The position font and color will be written to the
- FAM.CFG file so it will start again afterwards. Menus can be activated
- with the right mouse button or SHIFT-F10.
-
- With the F1 key you can open the helpfile from every notebook tab or setting.
-
- 6. Programs wich are comming with the program
- =======================================
-
- The next programs coming with FAM/2:
-
- - QuitFam.exe When you start QuitFam the main program will be
- terminated at once. Attention! When there is a
- answering call on this moment, the program does not
- ask for confirmation! It terminates at once.
-
- - FreePort.exe This program frees the com port so that other programs
- can use the same comport. FAM/2 will try to
- open the port every 10 seconds. When the port is free
- again, FAM/2 will open it. This function does only
- work when you are registered.
-
- - Shedule.exe FAM/2 has a build in sheduler. This is necessary for
- the program so this program must be in the same directory.
-
-
- 7. Parameters
- ===========
-
- FAM/2 knows some parameters wich you can use starting the program form
- an OS/2 prompt. This parameters are in first instantion for the
- searching and debugging of faillures and bugs wich are not known by
- this moment.
- It will help to fine tuning FAM/2. It does'nt matter if
- you use lower- or uppercase.
-
- This is what the parameters do:
-
- Debug The logfile will be extended. Example: all dates between
- modem and CPU will be written to the logfile. When you
- have problems with your modem it will be much easier for
- me to solve the problems when you start FAM/2 with this
- parameter and send me your logfile.
-
- NoCheck There will no check what code the modem gives back to
- the program. Best you don't use this future!
-
- NotSetCom Normal FAM/2 configures the parameter for the com-port.
- This parameter gives the ability to start FAM/2 without
- resetting the com port settings (except the DTE-Speed).
-
- Once FAM/2 answers only one call and exits afterwards.
-
- FaxOnly FAM/2 will work only as a Fax-program. When you receive
- a call automaticly the program tries to recieve a fax
- without playing the greeting. With this option you
- can use every Fax-Class 2 fax-modem. Automaticly the
- NoCheck parameter will be active so that you don't get
- an error that FAM/2 has not detected a voice/fax/data
- modem.
-
- SBlockSize=n n is the value of the block that will be send. FAM/2
- does not send every byte to the modem but per block. You
- can overwrite standard values. The standard is 4096
- bytes. When you have problems with the playback of
- voice-data (noice). When you discover problems, you have
- to try out some values.
-
- RBlockSize=n n is the value of recieving blocks. Also when writing
- voice-data to the harddisk FAM/2 does not write one to
- one byte but per block. The standard value is 10240
- bytes.
-
- ModemPause=n n is the time in milliseconds that FAM/2 waits after a
- command to the modem. The default is 100 Milliseconds
- (1/10 Second). When you discover that commands of the
- modem are ignored (starten FAM/2 with the debug option,
- then you can see in the logfile when your modem ignores
- a command) try to increase this value.
-
- Handle=n You can give the handle of the com port to the extern
- program from where you start FAM/2 Attention: The
- handle isn't the comport! Also see the thema Date
- answering recognition
