- HyperView is a high performance file viewer with special features for
- isolating and extracting information from word processing and text
- files. It reads popular word processing formats, HTML (World Wide
- Web) files, OS/2 .INF and .HLP files, ASCII text files, and files
- compressed in the ZIP format. Supported file formats in ZIP archives
- are automatically converted to text.
-
- With HyperView, you focus quickly on pertinent information.
- HyperView's search function lets you tag all lines of text containing
- a matching search string. Text may also be tagged and untagged
- manually. Tagged lines may then be isolated in one window while being
- viewed simultaneously--with surrounding text--in the main text window.
- These powerful features let you easily create a hyperview into your
- document.
-
- HyperView is blazingly fast and easy to use. Its power is packaged in
- a deceptively simple package.
-
- HyperView is suitable not only as a free standing program, but also as
- an add-on to your favorite file manager. Herb Tyson selected
- HyperView as one of "the top dozen or so 'must have' OS/2 programs" in
- his book Your OS/2 Warp Version 3 Consultant. HyperView is also a
- charter member of the OS/2 "Must Have" Utilities List published on the
- Internet.
-
- Note: HyperView now comes in two editions. HyperView PM runs
- under the OS/2 Presentation Manager. The original HyperView is a
- text mode application that runs in a full screen session or in an
- OS/2 window. This package includes both editions.
-
- This README file briefly describes the features of both HyperView
- programs, with instructions for installing each. It should be
- sufficient for most reasonably proficient computer users to get
- started with the program. For the PM edition, context sensitive
- help is available from within the program by typing F1. The User
- Reference Guide (HV.DOC) contains complete information about the
- text mode edition.
-
-
- [Registration]
-
- HyperView is user supported software. It is not free and it is not
- public domain. In brief, there is a $35 fee to register HyperView.
- One registration fee covers both the PM and text mode editions. For
- business use, each person using HyperView must be registered. Volume
- discounts and site licenses are available--please write for details.
- More information concerning registration and licensing may be found in
- the file REGISTER.FRM.
-
- For your convenience, individuals may also register by credit card
- through BMT Micro. BMT accepts Visa, MasterCard, Discover, Diner's
- Club, American Express, Optima, and Eurocard. BMT accepts
- registrations by mail, phone, fax and e-mail. See the file BMT.FRM
- for details.
-
- CompuServe members may also register on-line using SWREG. HyperView's
- SWREG identification number is 8547.
-

-
- The HyperView package includes both text mode and PM editions of the
- program. You may install either one or both editions of the program
- on the same system. One registration covers both editions.
-
-
- [Installing HyperView PM]
-
- To install HyperView PM on OS/2 Warp or above, simply copy the files
- HVPM.EXE, HVPM.HLP, and HVPM.ICO to a convenient directory. If you
- are running OS/2 2.10 or 2.11, then copy the file HVPMPW.EXE instead
- of HVPM.EXE and rename it HVPM.EXE.
-
- The Register Dialog appears the first time you run the PM edition.
- Thereafter, it may be accessed from the Help menu.
-
- HyperView PM utilizes a registration number derived from your name.
- Enter your name and registration number in the appropriate dialog
- entry fields. Please be sure to enter the required information
- exactly as it appears in the notification you received with your
- registration number. A seemingly insignificant change in spelling,
- capitalization, or punctuation will lead to an error message.
-
- If you do not have a registration number, push "Evaluate" to initiate
- a 15-day trial period. During the trial period, there is a 25% chance
- that HyperView will furnish a reminder to register, when you open a
- new file. You may open seven or eight files without a reminder,
- followed by two reminders in succession. But on average, there will
- be one reminder for each four files you open. After 15 days the
- likelihood of a reminder jumps to 50% per file and after 30 days to
- 100%. None of HyperView's features are disabled during the trial
- period.
-
-
- [Installing HyperView (Text Mode)]
-
- Copy HV.EXE, HVAUX.EXE and HV.ICO to a convenient directory. Please
- note that all three files *must* be located in the same directory. If
- you are upgrading from an earlier edition of HyperView, be sure to
- replace the older copies of both HV.EXE and HVAUX.EXE.
-
-
- [Viewing ZIP Archives]
-
- To view a compressed file in a ZIP archive, you must have a copy of
- the OS/2 version of Info-ZIP's UNZIP.EXE. As of the date of this
- release, the most current version of UnZip is 5.12. UNZIP.EXE must be
- located in a directory on your path. It is especially important to
- remember this requirement when you run HyperView (text mode) after
- booting from a floppy or after using Warp's Alt-F1 startup option. In
- either case, the system uses an alternative CONFIG.SYS, which may not
- include your customary path statement.
-
-
- [Starting HyperView]
-
- HyperView may be run from the command line, as a program object on
- your Desktop or LaunchPad, or as a viewer with your favorite file
- manager. For first time users, an easy way to start HyperView is from
- the Workplace Shell. Drag the icon of a file you wish to view and
- drop it on the HyperView icon.
-
- You may also start HyperView from any OS/2 command prompt. The full
- syntax for starting HyperView is:
-
- HV [options] [filespec]
-
- or
-
- HVPM [options] [filespec]
-
- HyperView PM has a special 'keep resident' mode that provides enhanced
- integration with file manager programs. The syntax for 'keep
- resident' mode is
-
- HVPM /K [options] [filespec]
-
- Please consult the on-line help for additional details.
-
- For additional information about starting HyperView and about using
- HyperView with other programs, please see the on-line Help
- (HyperView PM) or HV.DOC (text mode).
-
-
- [Using HyperView]
-
- Although HyperView offers advanced features, it utilizes a
- conventional user interface, requiring little, if any, effort to
- learn. In deference to those who have difficulty managing shifted
- keystrokes, most HyperView commands can be accessed without using
- shifted keystrokes.
-
- For the PM edition, context sensitive help is available from within
- the program by pressing F1. In the text mode edition, a Help summary
- that lists available commands may be obtained by pressing F1 while
- viewing a file or from a conventional or ZIP directory. The User
- Reference Guide (HV.DOC) contains complete information about the text
- mode edition.
-
-
- [Support]
-
- Support may be obtained by communicating with the author at one of the
- addresses listed at the top of this document. Please be as specific
- as possible and be sure to supply the HyperView version number.
-
- You do not need to register before receiving assistance in resolving
- problems with HyperView. One advantage of user supported software is
- the opportunity to verify that a program works before purchasing it.
- This imposes a reciprocal responsibility: to register when you know
- the program works for you.
-
-
- [Limitation of Warranties]
-
- There are no warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular
- purpose, nor any other warranties, either express or implied by law.
- The author is not responsible for any damages (incidental,
- consequential, or otherwise).
-
-
- [Restrictions]
-
- Authorized users are granted a limited license to make copies of
- HyperView without charge, subject to the restrictions contained
- elsewhere in this document as well these:
-
- (a) HyperView must be distributed in absolutely unmodified form,
- including the program and documentation.
-
- (b) For-profit use of HyperView without a license is prohibited.
-
- (c) HyperView may not be included or bundled with any other
- product for any reason.
-
- Not-for-profit user's groups, such as the Capital PC User Group, are
- permitted to charge a small fee for materials, handling, postage, and
- general overhead. No other organization is permitted to charge for
- distribution of copies of HyperView.
-
- Electronic bulletin board system operators are encouraged to post
- HyperView on their bulletin board systems for downloading by their
- users, if the above conditions are met, and if no special fee is
- necessary to access the HyperView files (a general fee to access the
- BBS is acceptable). Likewise, all authorized users are encouraged to
- upload to HyperView to BBS meeting these requirements.
