- Welcome to `bright cyan`Franchise Basketball`bright green`. This game is the culmination
- of over three years of research, development, and programming. It is
- a basketball league simulator. BBS users dial in to the host system
- and manage a basketball franchise. The game play is not conducted
- on-line. Games are played at night. Players coach and act as a teams
- general manager, trading, drafting, and otherwise acquiring players.
- The goal is to win games, and progress through the playoffs to win ...
- The FBB World Championship.
-
- The draft is the single most important part of `bright cyan`Franchise Basketball`bright green`.
- If you can acquire talented players in the draft, your team will prove
- to be strong. But what do all the numbers mean?!?
- `bright yellow`Offense
- The offensive rating, sometimes referred to as "O" or "OF" is
- the players general offensive ability. This has little to do
- with shooting, but rather getting open for a good shot and
- being able to hold on to the ball while on offense. Players
- with a high offensive rating will rarely turn the ball over
- and will get better shots due to their ability to get open.
- `bright yellow`Defense
- Defense, also known as "D", is the players ability to play
- defensively. Good defensive rated players will cause turnovers,
- create steals, and block shots. It is very difficult to shake
- a good defensive player, thus shot selection is limited for the
- offensive player being guarded.
- `bright yellow`Shooting
- Sometimes referred to as "S", shooting is the players ability
- to shoot the ball from the field. This is the players ability
- to sink the shots. This is not a score for three point shooting.
- `bright yellow`Rebounding
- This rating refers to a players rebounding skill. Seen here
- abbreviated "R". A player skilled in rebounding will pull
- down many rebounds ( resulting from missed shots ), a key
- ingredient in many successful teams.
- `bright yellow`Three Point Shooting
- Abbreviated "3" or "3P", this is a players shooting ability
- beyond the three point arc. High scores here mean that the
- player is a good three point shooter for THEIR POSITION. A
- 20 guard would be genuinely good, however a 20 Center is very
- good for a Center, but may shoot like a 5 Guard. Center's don't
- get many chances to shoot three's!
- `bright yellow`Fatigue
- This also seen as "F", is a players fatigue rating. Low fatigue
- ratings mean that the player tires easily. These players will
- have to be substituted for often, allowing them less playing time.
-
- It is important to remember that all scores are relative to the position
- the player plays. Guards and small forwards rebound less than center's
- and forwards. Due to this a guard with a rebounding skill of 20 will
- most often get less rebounds than a center with a score of 10 or less.
- This is simply due to the fact that a guard will get less opportunities
- to bring down rebounds, however, when presented with an opportunity
- the 20 guard will most likely take the rebound. Likewise, center's and
- forwards don't take many three point shots, their services are needed
- elsewhere.
-
- After you have your team selected you can do several things. You can
- shuffle the starting lineup, scout other teams, check out the standings,
- league leaders, release players and more. In the commercial version
- (registered), trading, releasing and signing waiver players, and several
- other options are available.
-
- It is recommended that you check your team every couple of days to make
- adjustments as needed. Players will experience slumps and streaks so
- beware if a player has a couple of bad games. When you login to check
- your team, you may see the results of the last games played by going
- to the sports page option.
