-
- -Some facts...-
-
- Welcome to INTRO FOX v2.0, which is without any doubt by far the most
- powerful Intro/Demo Maker available on the PC software market. This new,
- completely re-written version provides all the features given in the
- first version, plus a lot of additional stuff, like VoxelSpace flights,
- flames, an integrated MOD-Player for music up with up to 32 channels,
- and a flexible FLI-animation player!
- I was astonished by the feedback I received since I released INTRO FOX
- v1.0, which was (as I admit) not very user-friendly. I was often asked
- to program a more comfortable user-interface and to write a German
- documentation. So here you are - I hope you're happy with the changes.
- INTRO FOX has been designed with the intention to make democreation and
- graphical presentations possible for all those of you who are able to
- use a program/utility and are perhaps even able to draw neat gfx, but
- who are not able to code it themselves. Coding demos or intros is
- something you really have to learn during a long time of improvement of
- your skills, and not everybody has the time or ability to learn this.
- So here is something you will surely make use of if you'd like to create
- a BBS Intro, a presentation and so on.
- If you want to use this Intromaker for commercial purposes, we've got
- special registration conditions for you (so don't tell us you didn't
- know =) ). Commercial users will also be interested to know that the
- Intros and Demos created with INTRO FOX v2.0 can now also be run from
- a CD ROM. Thus, INTRO FOX is the PERFECT solution for you if you want
- to develop an introduction for your forthcoming CD ROM !
- I won't list all the changes and improvements in comparison with v1.0,
- because INTRO FOX v2.0 has been nearly completely re-written. Forget all
- the inconveniences you stumbled about when using v1.0, just enjoy this
- new incredible and stunning FORCE II release!
-
-
- -Shareware Limitations-
-
- 1. File format information is not included
- 2. Font/Sprite converters are not included
- 3. Script files can not be saved
- 4. Vectorobjects can not be saved
- 5. Voxelflights can not be saved
- 7. Intros will only run for approx. 20 or 30 seconds; FLI-animations will
- only be repeatet max. 3 times
- 8. "ShareWare-Messages" shown after each Intro will remind you of the fact
- that this is an unregistered version.
-
-
- -Registration-
-
- You may use this demo version of Intro Fox for a testing period of 2 weeks.
- After this period, you have to delete this program or register it (neverthe-
- less, you may copy this demo version freely to all your friends). By regis-
- tering, you will receive the newest version of IntroFox without any shareware
- limitations. The registered version includes all the neat utilities included
- in this version without ANY restrictions, PLUS Tools that allow you to create
- your own fonts and sprites for IntroFox. In addition to this, the code of the
- registered version is a bit more optimized as far as calculation speed is
- concerned. As you see, you have got a lot of benefits from registering.
- There are several types of registration. For details, please take a look
- at the registration form (REGISTER.FRM).
- Updates can be obtained by sending 15 DM for packaging, stamps and the disk(s)
- to me - that means, if you are already a registered user! For countries other
- than Germany, this fee is 25 DM.
- There's now also the possibility to do a QUICK registration. You don't have
- to pay for packaging and stamps, and you'll have your registered version of
- INTRO FOX very soon. Simply send me the required money and write that you
- want a QUICK registration. Add your name and a password. You will be able to
- download INTRO FOX from our BBS with your name and the mentioned password as
- soon as I have received the money.
- As you may already know if you have seen a demo or an intro by Force ][, we
- are very concerned about the way animals - and also people in some places -
- are treated in the world. We strongly support the demands of the Animal Rights
- Movement, fighting for the innate rights of every oppressed creature, and
- against hunting, vivisection, fur-farming and much more. By supporting
- FORCE II, you will not only help us develop further software, but you will
- also support the Animal Rights Movement.
- There is a special OFFER FOR ARM SUPPORTERS: If you send me a photocopy of
- a document that shows that you have donated more than 50 DM for any Animal
- Rights group in the last 6 months, you will get Intro Fox for only 70% of
- the original price (30% price reduction).
-
-
- -System requirements-
-
- Required: 386SX, VGA, 1MB RAM, 4MB free HD space, 600.000 Bytes of free
- Conventional memory
- Recommended: 486SX-33 with a VLB VGA card and a fast HD
- For pure fun: 486DX2-50 or faster with a fast VLB VGA card and a Gravis
- Ultrasound!
- ...but don't forget: It all depends on you. The more complex your intros
- or demos get, the more performance is needed. Especially voxel space
- dens won't look good on anything slower than a 486-33!
-
-
- -Using Intro Fox-
-
- Using INTRO FOX is very simple now. It is mainly built up out of pull-down-
- menus, so you simply have to move through the selections with the cursor
- keys and click on the desired option with [ENTER] or [SPACE]. If there are
- more options than your display can show, the options can be scrolled up
- and down. Options displayed in dark grey are currently not selectable
- (usually because they can't be combined with another option which is
- currently switched on, or because the respective option is not yet
- relevant).
- Please decrunch the archive IFOX200.ZIP and copy all files to a single
- directory. Run INTRO FOX by typing IFOX. The title image will appear, and
- as soon as you simply hit any key, you'll see it - the main menu!
- Here is a short description of the menu functions:
- - FILES - LOAD SCRIPT FILE loads the script of a previously saved demo.
- It changes the current demo type into the type the loaded script
- file contains. Please note that v2.0 script files are NOT
- compatible with v1.0 script files!
- - SAVE SCRIPT FILE saves the script of a demo you have created
- with INTRO FOX. You are requested to enter the file name.
- - RESET ALL SETTINGS will re-initialize INTRO FOX. All unsaved
- data will be lost.
- - DOS SHELL allows you to return to the DOS prompt without having
- to abandon or save the edited data.
- - EXTERNALS - RUN VOXEL SPACE MOVEMENT EDITOR: You can easily create your
- own voxelspace movement patterns by flying through the world
- generated by the editor using the numeric keypad. You will be
- asked to type the filename of your movement pattern before.
- The world you'll create your movement pattern in will look
- as specified in the demo editing menu. So the editor gives
- you a realistic impression of what your demo will look like.
- However, a background picture is NOT included in the editor.
- To leave the editor and to save your movement pattern, simply
- press ESCAPE.
- - RUN VECTORLINE OBJECT EDITOR: You can use this cool vector-
- editor to create your own vectorline- and vectordot objects.
- All available functions are shown on the right of the
- screen; for example, you can shift your object in any
- direction, you can rotate it by simply changing the X/Y/Z
- coordinates, you can view it (the objects are shown just as
- in the demo, so you have got a good opportunity to judge their
- appearance), zoom the X/Y/Z coordinates seperately, and
- much more, like loading and saving.
- To edit a single line, move the cursor to the line you want to
- edit, and press space. A cursor will appear. Now, enter six
- coordinates raging from -60 to +60, seperated by commas and
- press enter. The new line will immediately be taken up into
- the list.
- If you enter unacceptable coordinates, you will be prompted to
- correct your input.
- - RUN VECTORDOT OBJECT EDITOR: Just as the vectorline editor,
- but dot-related. Therefore, you only have to enter three
- coordinates in each line.
- Actually, the vector editors are the only things that have
- not been changed since v1.0 !
- - RUN SCROLLTEXT CONVERTER: Converts the specified text file
- into a scrolltext that can be used by INTRO FOX v2.0.
- - CONVERT SPRITE: Generates a sprite out of a PCX file. The
- converter will create two files - one containing the image
- data, the other one containing the palette information.
- - CONVERT FONT: Generates a font file out of a PCX image.
- Like the sprite converter, this program will create two
- files.
- - EDIT DEMO - EDIT/CREATE DEMO WITH BACKGROUND PICTURE:
- - Use an ANSI screen at the end of the demo: You can select
- if you want to use a user-defined .ANS picture at the end
- of the demo. It will be displayed until the ESC key is hit.
- Remark: ANSi driver has to be installed on the system for
- this option.
- - Fadeoff effect: You can select which fade off effect you
- want to use. Possibilities are: Palette fade off (darken
- the picture), scrolling (push the picture out of the
- screen) or step-by-step.
- - Screen Splitting: A nice effect which "pushes" the screen
- downwards. Play around with it, it's true fun! You may use
- different options for that: upper border (Y-value), lower
- border (Y-value) and pattern. Latter can be: Jump (let the
- screen jump), sine (make the screen move in sine-waves),
- linear (boring ;) )...
- - Soft Scrolling: Should (but doesn't need to) be used in
- combination with Screen Splitting. Here, you may set the
- start address of the "upper" part of the screen which
- doesn't move if you've only got Screen Splitting active.
- Screen Splitting doesn't look good ("buggy"!) if used
- without Soft Scrolling and vice versa, so I strongly
- suggest you to combine these effects. Options are the
- same as with screen splitting.
- - Palette cycling: You can do some extremely nice things with
- palette cycling. It "rotates" the colors in a certain field
- of the palette, and with a little experimentation experience,
- you will be able to use this very effectively. In this
- version, you can decide about the element to start cycling
- with, the element to stop it with, and the cycling speed.
- The nice sinus effect shown in the example intro (looks cool,
- eh?) works with this single effect.
- - Shadebobs: a very colourful effect. If you use shadebobs,
- you have to select a filename for the movement table.
- You can also choose the size of shadebobs (in pixels) and
- their speed (where too fast doesn't look good in most
- cases - I suggest a speed of about 3 or so). Shadebobs
- can hardly be combined with any other bitmap-related
- effect.
- - Scrolline: A very rudimentary effect for intros or demos.
- You really should use one, for it works with every other
- effect in this demo.
- - Sprites: A nice little effect. You've got the same options
- as with shadebobs here, with the difference that Sprites
- CAN be combined with any other effect without any problems.
- - Filename of the background picture: Specify the name of
- the PCX file to use as background here.
- - Reduce PCX file colour palette: As long as you do not
- use colourcycling, you should definitely switch on this
- option (else, the palette of your image may be changed
- because the font or a sprite uses a different palette).
- - Fade-in effect: You can select which fade-in effect you
- want to use. Possibilities are: Palette, scrolling and
- step-by-step.
- - Running time: Sets the running time in seconds. Use 0
- if you don't want to have a time limit (intro can be
- interrupted by pressing ESC!)
- - EDIT/CREATE DEMO WITHOUT PICTURE
- - Use an ANSI screen at the end of the demo: You can select
- if you want to use a user-defined .ANS picture at the end
- of the demo. It will be displayed until the ESC key is hit.
- Screen Splitting doesn't look good ("buggy"!) if used
- without Soft Scrolling, so I strongly suggest you to
- combine these effects. Options are the same as with screen
- splitting.
- - Scrolline: A very rudimentary effect for intros or demos.
- You really should use one, for it works with every other
- effect in this demo. Filenames for the text and the font
- HAVE to be supplied !
- - Sprites: A nice little effect. You've got the same options
- as with shadebobs here, with the difference that Sprites
- CAN be combined with any other effect without any problems.
- - Starfield: This effect can only be used if you don't use a
- background pic. Looks quite 3-dimensional, and in
- combination with vectorobjects, you may achieve cool
- results. You have to specify the number of stars (up to
- 1000, though slower 386 CPU's won't be able to display that
- many stars at an acceptable speed).
- - Warplines: You may specify the number of lines as well
- as their colour here, where the colour can be taken from one
- of the three firm patterns. A little tip: Try using this
- effect in combination with palette cycling. The four values
- for the line movement speed can be quite helpful.
- - Vectordots: You have to specify a file with the necessary
- vectordot definitions in it. You can also define the
- vectordot rotation speed, their colour, their way of
- rotating (only around the X2-axis, around the X2 and the
- X3 axis, only around the X3-axis) and their distance to
- the center of the screen, where (for example) -100 is on
- the very left and +100 is quite on the right hand side.
- - Vectorlines: Improved vector effect, looks really neat. Can
- only be used in intros with black background. The rest of
- the possibilities you have here are identical with those
- mentioned in the description of vectordots. Just as the
- Vectordots, the lines are automatically clipped at the
- right and at the left of the screen.
- For Vectorlines AND vectordots, the following colourtable
- is valid when selecting the colours for your custom objects:
- [1-dark red, 2-light red, 3-dark green, 4-light green,
- 5-dark blue, 6-light blue, 7-orange, 8-yellow, 9-dark mint,
- 10-light mint]
- - Fade-in effect: You can select which fade-in
- effect you want to use. Possibilities are: Scrolling and
- step-by-step.
- - Running time: Sets the running time in seconds. Use 0
- if you don't want to have a time limit (intro can be
- interrupted by pressing ESC!)
- - EDIT/CREATE FIRE INTRO:
- - Picture to be burnt: Specify the picture you will use
- as the source of the flames here. When you create the
- PCX file, please consider the fact that only colour 255
- actually "burns". The number of every other colour
- corresponds to the "temperature" it is initialized with.
- - Wind direction: Sets the direction into which the
- flames are blown (changing looks quite realistic).
- - Running time: Sets the running time in seconds. Use 0
- if you don't want to have a time limit (intro can be
- interrupted by pressing ESC!)
- - Demo ending: Specifies whether a demo should be
- stopped immediately when the running time is over
- or whether the colours should first be faded to
- black.
- - EDIT/CREATE VOXELSPACE INTRO:
- - Fractal den or landscape: If you select landscape here,
- the intro will show a voxel landscape. If you are using
- a landscape, you can also specify a background picture.
- A voxel den looks very impressing, though you can't
- use a picture here.
- - Voxel colour: Self-explaining, I guess...
- - Movement file: The way to move thorugh the virtual
- voxel world is specified in movement files.
- - EDIT/CREATE ANIMATION FROM FLI-FILE:
- - You can specify any FLI-File here. You can also see
- this as a kind of FLI-to-EXE converter.
- - Running speed: Select the finetuning of the
- animation's speed here (0 means no delay)
- - Number of repeats: Here, specify the number of cycles
- through the animation. 0 means that the FLI is
- repeated until ESC is pressed.
- - COMPILE - RUN DEMO: Runs a single intro or demo part if there's
- enough conventional memory available. Unlike in v1.0, you
- don't have to leave the INTRO FOX developing environment
- to watch the things you've created!
- - COMPILE DEMO AND CREATE .EXE FILE: Compiles a demo and
- creates an EXE File just as specified in the demo editing
- menus. You'll immediately be back in the INTRO FOX developing
- environment.
- Once you have compiled your Intro, you can execute it by
- simply typing its name at the DOS prompt. Please NOTE that
- the demo's name is not necessarily identical with the name
- of its script file, but that the demo-name is specified in
- the first line of the democreation submenus.
- If you want to release your demo as a stand-alone production,
- you may well do so. Now, you do only need the .EXE file, which
- Intro Fox has created out of your demo script file. It can be
- copied to any directory, and it can also be executed from
- there. Please NOTE that under some circumstances, the intro
- will need some 100KB's of free space on your hard drive C: !
- - CREATE LOADER FOR AN INTRO FOX MEGADEMO: Use this to create
- so-called "Mega-Demos" consisting of several independet parts
- and a soundtrack (a .MOD file). Immediately after selecting
- this option, you may choose up to 20 executable files from
- the Intro Fox directory. These are supposed to be Intros
- created with Intro Fox. If you don't want to use as many as
- 20 parts (intros) for your mega-demo, simply hit [ESC] when
- you've finished your selection.
- Then, you will be asked to select a MOD file from the current
- directory. This will become the demo's sound track. Last, but
- not least, you have to specify the name of your loader, which
- will then be compiled and an EXE file will be created.
- Please note that the MOD file size is very limited due to the
- missing EMS/XMS support of the music system used. Generally
- speaking, the MOD size may be up to 512KB if you're using a
- GUS with 512KB on-board RAM, but shouldn't exceed 100 to 150KB
- when you intend to make SoundBlaster usage possible. Actually,
- UMP (Upper Memory Blocks) ARE supported when using Sound
- Blaster output.
- If your Mega Demo does not run, this is probably because your
- MOD file is too large. Sorry for this (I hope ANT will have
- his music system finished by the time the next version is
- released).
- - EXIT - exits to the DOS prompt. When doing this, you will lose all
- the edited data you have forgotten to save.
-
- I hope this is enough information for now. Registered users may - of course -
- ask me about some problems they have with Intro Fox. ;-) ... If you con-
- tinuously run into the same problems again and again, take a glance at the
- FAQ section in this DOC. If your question still remains unanswered, please
- contact me in one of the ways listed in this documentation file.
-
-
-
- -Things to be added in the future
-
- - FullScreen-Zooming/Rotating
- - An optimized, reliable high-speed-MOD-Player
- - An optimized, more compatible 100% Assembler version of the FLI player
- - Textured and filled vectorobjects
- - A text file viewer
-
-
- -And here... some FAQs (Frequently asked questions)-
-
- Q: Some characters in the scrolly are missing. Why ?
- A: The font you are using simply doesn't support these chars !
- Try out a different font or make sure you do only use valid
- characters for the scrolly.
-
- Q: Some colours of the picture I use are horribly wrong. Why ?
- A: Because you are using a picture which uses colours <32 and
- have forgotten to switch on the colour reduction option in
- the demo editing menu.
-
- Q: The intro I have created is too slow on my computer! How can
- I solve this probby ?
- A: Try to use a lower number of Vectordots/-lines, a slower scrolly,
- slower or smaller shadebobs or sprites, a simpler FLI, or forget
- about flames and voxelspace dens. Or: Buy a faster computer.
-
- Q: What can I do about those goddamn horrible strange shareware-
- delays, messages and crippled menu functions ?
- A: Buy a registered version of Intro Fox. You will surely not be
- able to take them out in any other way. >;->
-
- Q: Could you give me the source code...?
- A: Mmhh...what do you offer ? ;-)
-
- Q: I want to use my own Sprites and Fonts and Vectorobjects !! How
- can I implement them ?
- A: Hehe...find out yourself or register !
-
- Q: You are so cooool...may I donate some money ??
- A: You're welcome :) !
-
- Q: ?
- A: !
-
- Q: Why are you called Fox ?
- A: 'cause I really admire these beautiful animals... :)...I could
- write much more about that, but I think I shouldn't do this at
- exactly this point :)...I think I'm drifting away from the subject!
-
- Q: Why is Intro Fox called Intro Fox ?
- A: NOW STOP ASKING THESE SILLY QUESTIONS !
-
- Q: Okay...
- A: That's not even a question!! Gngngngngngnnn...

- FORCE II/RATSOFT HISTORY:
-
- Ratsoft was formed in summer 1992 by Fox and Ant, originally just for fun
- and not really with the aim of being a true demo-releasing group. Later
- that year, as we saw great demos like Unreal or Cronologia, we got really
- fascinated by those productions, and we decided to release a demo created by
- ourselves - yet we did not know what it would be like, but the few routines
- we had got at that time did not let us do very spectacular things. You can
- see the results of these very first attempts to do something with the PC's
- graphics capabilities in The Sinus Demo and in Fox's Demo, which was
- released only one month later (anyway, it was based on nearly the same
- techniques as The Sinus Demo...).
- Well, our routines developed, and in the meantime we had realized that
- our group's name "Ratsoft" did definitely not sound very promising; we
- always got frustrated when we saw in different BBS's around that no-one
- downloaded the file with the nice description "The RatSoft Sinus Demo"...
- so we finally decided to leave the rats in peace and to call our group
- "Force II". I guess you will ask why we chose "Force II" !? Well, it's
- quite simple. For most of my suggestions concerning a new name for our
- group were labelled as "too dark" or "too mystic" by Ant, and for I did
- not like his suggestions either, we sought (and found) a simple, but
- promising name. That's FORCE II - two because of two ( ;) ) reasons:
- First, we were TWO people at that time - and second, because it was a
- kind of second beginning after the chapter 'Ratsoft' had been closed.
- Our first release under this new name was the Intro for the Digital
- Forces BBS. It was our first step into the direction of coding demos
- reaching really acceptable standards, though it can't be compared to the
- things you see in demos that are released nowadays. Anyway, this intro
- was spreaded much more intensively than our earlier productions (probably
- because of the group's new name !??!?)...
- The Digital Forces BBS as our WHQ enabled us to expand massively. We
- actually met most of our current members by modem, visited each other,
- and this way, things kept developing.

- Some remarks on the F0RCE ][ policy
-
- You will probably already have recognized that, unlike most other groups
- we know, we in Force II try to give our productions something that can be
- called a "deeper sense". As most Force II members are interested in politics
- and other important things beyond the demo and computer scene, this is only
- natural - and as we think, speaking out against any form of injustice belongs
- to the most basic and also to the most important things a human being can do
- in order to improve the situation so many oppressed beings are in. We have
- decided to point out our opinions on various forms of exploitation of living
- creatures in our demos, and we can only say that we are puzzled by the fact
- that we seem to be the only group that does this.
- Of course, we do not only speak out against exploitation and destruction
- in demos. Fox is also an author who is just writing his third book on Animal
- Rights. His first book, a hard-covered non-fiction title against hunting,
- has been published in April 1994, and has so far received very good reviews
- in various magazines. For German-speaking readers who may want to buy this
- book: It is called "Das Anti-Jagdbuch - von der ethischen und ökologischen
- Realität des edlen Waidwerks", it contains about 360 pages with photos
- and lots of text :) and it is available for 32 DM at your local bookshop (tell
- them to order it). In addition to this, Fox has written different articles
- for various animal rights magazines.
- If you want to contact us in order to discuss about anything we've just
- mentioned, just call our BBS or write to the snail mail address you can
- find in this text file. Because we are all very busy, letters we consider
- to be less important may get answered later than letters which seem more
- urgent to us.

- OUR WHQ BBS
-
- ...is the Digital Forces BBS, with Fox as its Sysop. At the moment,
- we have got 1.0 GB of HD space directly accessible. Via Network, there
- are further 500 MB on a different Harddisk ready for usage. In addition
- to this, there is a CD-ROM drive connected to the BBS. All these
- features give you a total amount of theoretically accessible data of
- about 2.0 Gigabytes.
- The Digital Forces BBS has got one of the greatest Demo bases in
- Southern Germany. Currently, there are more than 250 Megabytes of Demos,
- Intros and Music Disks ready for download, as well as many other files...
- but you will surely realize that yourself if you'll dare a login !
- JUST ENTER FOX'S DEN !
