- the task list, and the PERT chart to put
- information into the HiTech project.
- Now it's time to look at its ~Gantt chart~2
- for a different view of the project.

- A Gantt chart shows tasks and milestones
- laid out along a timescale. You'll see
- planned starts and finishes, durations,
- constraints, and slack.

- the milestones and durations that we entered in an
- earlier lesson. Let's take a look at its Gantt
- chart.

- First, pull down the Graphs menu.

- HiTech. A Gantt chart lists
- all the tasks and milestones
- for a project on the left of
- the chart. (Some tasks are
- out of view right now.)

- Normally, HTPM lists all
- tasks and milestones, but
- you can ask it to list just
- tasks, just milestones, or
- just overallocated tasks.

- Tasks and milestones are
- listed in the order of their
- planned start dates. You
- can change the order of the
- tasks so that they are listed
- by any one of many factors.

- At the top of the Gantt is
- a timescale. HTPM automati-
- cally divides the timescale
- in one-week units. You can
- change the timescale, too,

- To interpret a Gantt chart,
- you should understand a few
- of the simple symbols HTPM
- uses on the chart.

- HTPM uses triangles to show
- milestones on a Gantt. If a
- milestone has no slack, the
- triangles are close together,
- forming a diamond.

- Tasks are represented by
- horizontal lines and bars.

- right of the bar, the task
- has some slack. The task
- ~Staff~2 has some slack.

- no slack. The line and the
- bar are the same length.

- stone name, HTPM displays
- a ~tag~2 showing the duration
- of the task or the date of

- to the Gantt so that it shows
- just the tasks. While we're

- can also limit the tasks
