  20.      You've used the work breakdown structure,
  21.      the task list, and the PERT chart to put
  22.      information into the HiTech project.
  23.      Now it's time to look at its ~Gantt chart~2
  24.      for a different view of the project.

  26.      A Gantt chart shows tasks and milestones
  27.      laid out along a timescale.  You'll see 
  28.      planned starts and finishes, durations,
  29.      constraints, and slack.

  46. This is the PERT chart for HiTech.  It includes
  47. the milestones and durations that we entered in an
  48. earlier lesson.  Let's take a look at its Gantt
  49. chart.

  51. First, pull down the Graphs menu.

  60. HiTech.  A Gantt chart lists
  61. all the tasks and milestones
  62. for a project on the left of
  63. the chart.  (Some tasks are

  68. Normally, HTPM lists all
  69. tasks and milestones, but
  70. you can ask it to list just
  71. tasks, just milestones, or
  72. just overallocated tasks.

  77. listed in the order of their
  78. planned start dates.  You
  79. can change the order of the
  80. tasks so that they are listed

  85. At the top of the Gantt is
  86. a timescale.  HTPM automati-
  87. cally divides the timescale
  88. in one-week units.  You can
  89. change the timescale, too,

  94. To interpret a Gantt chart,
  95. you should understand a few
  96. of the simple symbols HTPM
  97. uses on the chart.

  101. HTPM uses triangles to show
  102. milestones on a Gantt.  If a
  103. milestone has no slack, the
  104. triangles are close together,
  105. forming a diamond.

  110. horizontal lines and bars.

  115. right of the bar, the task
  116. has some slack.  The task
  117. ~Staff~2 has some slack.

  128. stone name, HTPM displays

  239. this sort order.

  254. the screen right now.  Let's
  255. move the cursor down to the
  256. next screen.
