- Installation
- During installation you will be prompted for the
- directory path identifying where to install LANProtect. LANProtect
- defaults to SYS:\LPROTECT. The installation creates the default
- directory if it does not exist and will copy the program and data
- files to that directory.
- To install LANProtect at the workstation:
- 1. Log in to the file server as supervisor or as a
- supervisor equivalent.
- 2. Insert the LANProtect disk into the A or B drive.
- 3. At the A: or B: prompt, type:
- INSTALL
- 4. Press <Enter>.
- The installation welcome screen appears.
- 5. Follow the screen prompts for installation.
- Once the installation is complete, load
- LANProtect at the server
- console.
- To load the LANProtect NLM at the file server
- console:
- At the file server use Step 1 if you copied the
- LANProtect NLM to the system directory during
- installation or Step 2 if
- you did not copy the NLM during installation.
- 1. Type:
- LOAD LPROTECT
- 2. Press <Enter>.
- 3. Type the path name you entered when you installed
- LANProtect and press <Enter>. For example:
- LOAD [VOLUME:][PATH][LPROTECT]
- Note:This command can be entered into the AUTOEXEC.NCF
- file, so that it executes every time the server is
- started.
- A screen appears.
-
- Loading LPROTECT.NLM with the PROTECT option loads
- LANProtect and immediately locks the LANProtect
- screen and requires a password. For example:
- :LOAD LPROTECT PROTECT
- Note:The default password is LANPROTECT. It is not case
- sensitive.
- LANProtect defaults to the highest level of
- security. The following configurations are the
- defaults for maximum security:
- ■ Scan all DOS and Macintosh files on the
- Prescheduled and Manual Server scans
- ■ Scan both incoming and outgoing files on the
- server with the Real Time scan
- ■ Move infected files to the specified or default
- virus directory
- ■ Generate and save a report to a text file upon
- scan completion
- ■ Notify specified user groups when a virus is
- detected
- ■ Require passwords known only by a select few to
- unload and unlock the LANProtect menu screen
- ■ Notify users when they access an infected file.
-
- Upgrading to LANProtect 1.5
- If you have already purchased a copy of LANProtect
- 1.0, there are several things to keep in mind about
- LANProtect 1.5. The virus pattern updates on the
- Intel BBS are compatible with LANProtect 1.5
- but not with LANProtect 1.0. Also note that if you
- are running NetWare 3.10, you may have problems
- running both versions of LANProtect. Contact Novell
- to upgrade to NetWare 3.11.Testing LANProtect
- Once you have installed and configured LANProtect,
- you can run a test to see how LANProtect works. The
- test is TESTVRS.COM and can be executed from the
- LANProtect directory. The test is not a virus
- and will not damage your system, however a pattern
- has been included in the pattern file to detect it
- as a virus. When the test is run, either a
- message appears saying, ■This is the testing virus
- for LANProtect■ or the test is detected and
- notification of the test is sent to the proper
- users and to the log file and reports.
- To run the test:
- 1. Type TESTVRS at the LANProtect directory prompt.
- For example:
- P:\LPROTECT>TESTVRS
- You will receive notification based on how you
- have configured LANProtect.
- 2. View the Log File and Exception File Lists to see
- instances of the test.
- To disable the test:
- 1. Place the virus pattern, LPTEST, in the Exception
- Pattern List.
- or
- 1. Remove the file from the server.
- Note: Once disabled, the test will not work unless
- the pattern, LPTEST, is removed from the Exception
- Pattern List and the file, TESTVRS.COM, is copied to the
- server.
