- **** Level editor instructions
-
- !Brix contains fairly comprehensive editing facilities for you to design
- your own levels. It is usually easiest to start a new set, by clicking
- "New set" from the "Disc" menu (from the main menu), and following the
- instructions from there. Once you've got your new set file set up, you
- can edit it from scratch. Alternatively, you can edit some of the levels
- already supplied, provided you have the passwords for the levels above
- the ones you want to edit. This is to check that you have actually
- completed the level as it is, to make it impossible for you to, if stuck
- on a level, just edit it to make it easier.
-
- EDITING A SET
-
- Click "Edit" from the main menu. There will appear these options:
-
- "Edit level"- see next paragraph.
-
- "Add level" adds another level, up to the maximum of 50, when given the
- completion password (this is to prevent cheating of several sorts).
-
- "Edit info" allows you to edit the information supplied with each set-
- its name (not filename), designer's name and comment (anything you like,
- really)
-
- "Edit level" will ask for a level, and then for a password for the level
- above. You may enter the completion password here instead if you wish.
- If the computer is satisfied, more options will appear:
-
- "Edit screen" is the major editing area- see below.
-
- "Edit misc" allows you to edit the information supplied with each level
- when it is started- name and password. If it is the last level,
- completion password can also be edited.
-
- "Time limit: " allows the time limit on the level to be changed. When
- starting a new level, this will be set at 20.
-
- "Clear level" simply clears the level if you are sure.
-
- EDITING A SCREEN
-
- When "Edit screen" is pressed, after a short delay the level screen will
- appear, with the game panels at the bottom replaced by one large editing
- panel.
-
- The blocks in the bottom left can be selected with the mouse, and more
- pages can be shown with the up and down arrows. Pressing menu will
- present a brief explanation of what the selected block is, and what it
- does. Clicking select anywhere on the main screen will place the
- selected block there. Clicking adjust will delete anything placed,
- replacing it with a blank space.
-
- Three options, Grid, Sym and Hold, can be turned on or off.
-
- When Sym is ON, any opposite of any block on the screen will be placed
- in the symmetrically opposite position (as if split down the middle).
-
- When Grid is ON, a red grid is shown to make precise positioning easier.
-
- When Hold is ON in one of two states, (h)orizontal and (v)ertical, the
- mouse will not wave from a line whilst SELECT is held down.
-
- Clicking "OK" (bottom-right corner) will finish editing.
-
- If any blocks are unmatched (ie there are only two of block 3, or there
- are four of block 5, only one teleport, or one green key and two green
- doors), you will be informed and given the option to return to editing
- or continue regardless. Some of these mismatches may be deliberate, for
- example having only one key but two doors so that only the correct door
- must be opened for the level to be completed. Be warned however that
- some mismatches, such as there only being a single teleport, may cause
- serious errors.
-
- It is, of course, usually a good idea to test each level as you have
- designed it.
-
- The screen is then saved to memory, but NOT to disc. To save to disc you
- must save the entire set. This is done from the "Disc" menu from the
- main menu.
