- Speedball II
- >STYLE Body
- When I first saw Speedball 2 it just looked like a futuristic version of American
- football, but after you've played it for a bit you begin to see that this is far from
- the truth. For those of you that don't know how it is played it is something like
- this. There are nine players on each team who throw a metal ball about and try
- to get it into the net. If they do they score 10, 15 or 20 points. In the arena is a
- system you can throw the ball through if you do you get an extra 50% every
- time you score and 100% extra the next time. There are other bonuses but I
- won't bore you with them. A 'nice' feature is getting points if you injure an
- opposition player, this puts the essential aggression into the game.
-
- The game hasn't got very many options and the management option is very
- limited. But apart from this the game is very playable and the difficulty levels
- are well balanced so you won't lose interest in it very soon. It is not extremely
- original but it is original enough not to be boring. The only other thing I don't
- like is that when you play the computer it is slightly slower so if you've just been
- playing two player then the you need to adjust to the slower speed.
-
- Before you play a match you can:
- •Buy a player if you have the money.
- •Improve the teams skills. This can be done for a group or individual.
- •Check other information.
- individual player or for a group e. g. Defence or for the whole team. This
- allows you to make one side of the team very strong or make one section of
- the team more intelligent e.t.c.
-
- Here's a few tactics for playing against the computer:
- Don't go for the small bonuses.
- Have a shot at an extra 50 - 100% but don't get obsessed.
- Make sure the computer doesn't score when it has an extra 100%.
- Slide as much as possible.
- Pass as soon as you have the ball.
-
- Tactics against another player:
- To score a goal attack by going through the defence in a zigzag pattern so the
- goalie is on the wrong side when you shoot.
- Go for the extra percentages but only if you are winning.
- Slide a lot.
-
- Tactics in management:
- When you start the most important factors are:
- •Intelligence.
- •Stamina.
- •Aggression.
- •Give the goalie everything except attacking skills.
-
- That ends it off. Speedball II is an excellent game. Get it.

- Advertisements
- >STYLE Body
- We are considering putting adverts into the magazine and this will obviously
- depend on the number of adverts we receive. (Adverts can include sprites
- although too many sprites may stop many people down-loading the magazine
- due to it's size. So keep them small). If demand is high then we may start to
- charge in order to keep the size of the magazine down.
