  19. Will PMDF handle an alias and reversal database starting
  20. at about 5,000 entries and possibly growing to 20,000?

  22. What kind of problems might I run into?

  24. What we are trying to do is allow everyone at the Medical Center
  25. to have a single id in the form of id@mc.duke.edu
  26. As most users are not on the PMDF node (not even a VMS system),
  27. I want to rewrite the outgoing address into the normalized form using
  28. the reverse databse and then use the alias to direct it to
  29. the appropriate channel.  For example,
  30.  
  31. Outgoing:       user%node@mc.duke.edu becomes id@mc.duke.edu
  32. Incoming:       id@mc.duke.edu user%node@channel
  33.  
  34. If there is a better way of doing this I would not mind hearing it.
  35. We already maintain the databse needed to generate this info and
  36. in fact already perform the equiv of the above.  We however want to
  37. move it to PMDF if possible.
