  16.                             PIONEER 6 STATUS REPORT

  19.      Yesterday, the Deep Space Network's 70 meter antenna in Goldstone,
  20. California supported a tracking pass of the Pioneer 6 spacecraft.  Receiver
  21. lock was attained, but we were unable to attain telemetry lock because no
  22. subcarrier was detected.  The expected bit rate was 16 bps uncoded telemetry.
  23. The AGC (Automatic Gain Control) was initially at -175.3 dbm, but was seen to
  24. fluctuate causing the receiver to toggle in and out-of-lock.  The problem is
  25. under investigation.

  27.      Pioneer 6 was launched on December 16, 1965 and is the oldest surviving
  28. spacecraft.  Pioneer 6 was last supported on December 16, 1990, on the
  29. 25th anniversary of its launch, and no problems were encountered then.
