  24. Now, you would seem to be asserting (in an notably roundabout fashion)
  25. that since the word "state" is not present in the U.S. Constitution's
  26. Second Amendment, then it cannot be referring to state militias.  In
  27. light of the fact that this is the ONLY sort of militia extant when 
  28. the law was written, I find this belief charmingly quaint.

  34. When we get into these discussions, some people seem to assume that
  35. I'm rather dim, and they might be right.  However, I'm not quite so 
  36. mentally deficient, nor quite so gullible, as to believe that young male
  37. Yanks constitute a WELL-REGULATED militia (emphasis of the crucial
  38. phrase added, of course) in any _meaningful_ sense of the term.  As I 
  39. remarked privately to Gerry, Mom ain't a drill sergeant and thrashing
  40. through the back forty doesn't qualify as basic training.  I AM, you
  41. see, adequately bright to recall the words usually omitted for polem-
  42. ical reasons.

  45. are going to require creativity, rather than regurgitation.
