  11. Is it just me, or is the crackpot and fringe material
  12. drowning out the real physics?  Perhaps it is time for
  13.  
  14. sci.physics.orthodox (moderated?)

  16. sci.physics.orthodox is open to discussions of orthodox 
  17. physics of all branches.  Contributions that question the 
  18. fundamental bases of Schroedinger-Dirac quantum 
  19. mechanics, special relativity, or electromagnetism will 
  20. not be accepted.  Descriptions of gedanken-experiments 
  21. that purport to show inconsistencies in orthodox physics 
  22. will not be accepted.  (Descriptions of pedagogical 
  23. gedanken experiments that appear to show paradoxes, for 
  24. the purpose of creating a cognitive dissonance in a 
  25. student's mind, are acceptable if the paradox is given a 
  26. full explanation.)

  28. My motivation for this is the suspicion that this group 
  29. is not in contact with the physics community at all.  
  30. Note that approximately two months ago I posted an 
  31. announcement of a tenure-track physics opening at my
  32. institution.  Before the ad appeared in Physics Today,
  33. a month later, we received perhaps two applications.  
  34. We'renow up to around 60, with an end-of-the-year 
  35. deadline.  Since people usually tell their friends and 
  36. students about job openings, I infer that well under 1%
  37. of the real physics community actually reads this group.
