- My optometrist's office has a little lamp-and-meter that they use to
- test lenses for blocking ultraviolet (making sure a coating has been
- applied, for instance). They tell me most plastic blocks UV. It might
- be worth checking for such a meter in your area, and see if they would
- let you bring in a small piece of your plastic.
-
- You might also add a layer of 1/8" polycarbonate (verify this locally,
- but I think that's plenty to block UV).
-
- My SAD work area is 8' long and has 12 4' tubes over it, this winter
- (thank goodness for electronic ballasts to beat the hum and flicker!)
- I just use standard fluorescents, no UV, and wear polycarbonate glasses
- routinely.
