- I just bought a used rc car and have a number of questions. The radio is a
- Futaba FP-T2NBL, described on its front as a digital proportional unit, and
- operating at 29.965 MHz. The car has a Futaba FP-R102GR 2 channel receiver
- that says it has "battery eliminator circuitry". The speed control is a
- Nova 18-III reverse system that allows for continuously variable speeds and
- operates in forward and reverse. I'm not sure about the steering. I don't
- have any manuals or other description, but I know it was bought in Hong Kong
- in 1988.
-
- Questions:
- (1) Is the radio frequency legal in the US?
- (2) How should the antennae be oriented to each other?
- (3) How long should the antennae be?
- (4) The car uses an 8.4v battery pack (NiCad); how long can I expect it to
- operate between charges?
- (5) After testing it with the seller and seeing it operate correctly, we found
- out later that it wasn't working in reverse once we got it home. We hadn't
- fully charged the battery before all of this. Could it be that reverse dropped
- out because the battery pack was running low? Is this usual? I should have
- mentioned above that the car is a belt-driven four wheel drive job.
- (5) I've heard that NiCads can develop a memory that prevents full charging,
- and that running a pulse of current through the battery at reverse polarity
- can cure this problem. Is there a specific way to do this?
- (6) The radio receiver also has large letters "AM" before the frequency; is
- this an AM (amplitude modulated) radio system? What other choices are
- available? What other frequencies can I use with this radio?
-
- As you can guess, I am brand new at rc. If there are any general pointers
- that you can give me, or if you know of a FAQ that would keep me from
- remaining clueless, please, clue me in. I bought this car because I want
- to add an attatchment that will require two more channels/axes, so if anyone
- can suggest a good solution (such as using foot pedals to replace the pots
- and joysticks on the transmitter) that will free up my hands for the additional
- axes, please let me know.
-
- Thanks in advance....
