I have a question concerning the clutch master cylinder. I drive a toyota corolla GTS (1987) with 97000 km (approx. 60 000 mi), mostly highway. I noticed that the clutch pedal felt somewhat spongy (since a few weeks) but had no probl. until
yesterday, when the clutch had trouble engaging and disengaging (in the morning,
and also at the end of day, but not once warmed up). Took it to my mechanic
who diagnosed a loose or cracked seal around master cylinder.
My question is, can the seal only be replaced? or is it possible that the cyl.
itself is wrecked. And if so, why?
Mech. says the part (master cyl.) is worth $110 (can; about $85 U.S.)
