- I have been using an undersized pulley for serveral years on my Rx7.
- Accessories, including the water pump are driven at 1:1 with the stock pulley.
- The main purpose was to slow down the water pump which cavitates at something
- like 6800 rpm. (redline of a modified engine is 8500...) Since 7000 to 7500
- rpm is a common occurance during autocrossing, this seem like a reasonable
- thing to do. I have never had any problems with the battery and appear to
- have longer water pump life since changing pullies.

- # any drag racers or autocrossers out there try electrically
- # disconnecting the alternator?
- With newer cars that have electronic ignition and EFI, have you considered
- the effect of lower voltage on the performance of the car? Would you gain
- more by removing the load of the alternator then you would loose with a lower
- primary voltage to the ignition? IMHO it's not worth the bother, leave the
- belt on....

- # After trying them in an SCCA Solo ][ ESP Mustang for a while, I
- # gave up. It was always having to be push started and it wouldn't idle to
- # well (it never idled to well anyway) and the battery died irrecoverably once.
- # I don't think it was worth the hassle. This car was only used for competing, BTW
- I don't see the connection between push starting, bad idle and an undersize
- pulley... Assuming the car was trailered, since you said "the car was only
- used for competing", then the real fault may have been the battery. Even an
- standard pulley may have not allowed sufficant power to drive the ignition, EFI
- etc. Maybe a trickle charger on the battery between events would have been
- a solution. (driving to the events would work too...)
