- Very individual. *IF* I had done the Nissan lease I would not have
- had to pay one penny more for insurance. They would have let me go up
- to $1000 deductible (which is more deductible that I have). Same for
- my Acura lease (which I *do* have), not one extra piece of insurance.
-
- On of the biggest statements/dislikes about leases is that people
- claim, "You don't own anything at the end of the lease". Well, *most*
- leases give you an option to purchase the car at the residual value at
- the end of the lease which means that you have been effectively buying
- the car all along.
-
- What it (leasing) *does* give you is the option to walk away, which is
- similar to buying the car, selling it and using the selling price to
- pay off the loan. With the lease you don't have to worry about
- putting an ad in the paper and having a bunch of assholes call you up
- and give you a hard time (apologies to the reasonable people who *do*
- buy used cars but I ran into some real winners recently when I was
- selling my used card).
-
- The moral of the story is that these things vary from manufacturer to
- manufacturer, from state to state and possibly even finer grained than
- that, although I *will* say that all the Nissan leases seemed to be
- equal and all the Acura leases seemed to be equal with other competing
- dealers of the respective manufacturers.
-
- Can a lease get you in trouble, definitely. So can the *purchase* of
- any major item like this. If everyone uses common sense the a lot of
- these problems can be avoided.
