- After reading a lengthy flame of Infinity which recently appeared here,
- I got the distinct feeling that the guy had no idea what he was talking
- about.
-
- If the speakers in question were of the SM series, I would have to
- agree that they sound bad. No worse than the usual electronics superstore
- speakers, but decidedly low-fi.
-
- If they were of the RS series made AFTER Harmon International acquired
- Infinity, I would have to agree that they sound bad. They look dopey
- too.
-
- If they were anything else, I would whole-heartedly disagree. I bought
- a set of RS-4001's a number of years back. and they sound very nice. A
- little on the bright side, but very nice. The bass is tight and
- well-defined (these are all acoustic suspension), and the imaging is fine
- (after extensive fiddling with the dials on the back). They binding
- posts are too small, but no major complaints.
- I would prefer the 6001's but I didn't have that kind of money when I
- bought them. I like the Kappa series (the old models. There's a new
- ported one I haven't heard).
-
- If your buddy bought them from a local junk-monger, and took them to a dance,
- they are probably SM-82's or a closely related unit. They're not good.
-
- Go listen to an Infinity Beta equipped system.
