- spooge@sizone.UUCP (Cyberpolka On Da Jeep) and various other boys write:
-
- >Its still stupid. The point is INDIVIDUAL women walking around, not a
- >horde of them...
-
- >> > I also think that spelling "women" as "womyn" is silly. Just my opinion.
-
- >Women should look for more effective ways of empowerment than to change
- >the spelling of a word to fonetik form. Its trivial, and with alot of
- >people viewing it as a "typical feminist tactic" and equating their
- >other efforts with this, it undermines them in general.
-
- It's their party. They didn't invite you. So why does this offend you?
- How is your attitute that says "They're being stupid and I know better
- what's good for them" different from the intolerance and arrogance of the
- typical harrasser, abuser, or assaulter of women from whom so many of the
- boys posting in this thread have been trying so hard to distance themselves?
- (*I* am not the problem. I am a good male. I'm your friend, I'm here to
- help you. You *need* my help and support, etc., etc)
-
- About the spelling -- what precisely is wrong with the spelling of "womyn"?
- Why do you presume that this spelling is "silly" just because it is
- unfamiliar to you and your own short experience? Perhaps this spelling is
- a comparatively new fad, representing an attitude that considers women as
- chattel, as mere possesions of men. An attitude that explains why women
- not accompanied by a man are considered "fair game" and why sexual assault
- was considered not a crime against the woman but a viaolation of the
- property right of her man. Perhaps the "womyn" spelling is more ancient
- and more valid than the "woman" spelling?
-
- In any case, why can you fellas not just relax and say: it's not my way,
- but it's their way and they feel good about it and it doesn't do any harm,
- I am happy to tolerate it?
