- -> This discussion is so interesting, but might I interject yet
- ->
- -> another point of view. I am a FF, FR-D for a rural Iowa heavy
- -> rescue unit (vol.) . I am also a self employed commercial
- -> photographer. I've been a photographer for 15 years and just
- -> turned 31. I started as a newspaper photog. in high school and was
- -> present at several scenes. There were others who photographed
- -> accidents for the paper, and I remember some pics of a doa a guy
- -> had taken. Neither the photo editor or any of the other
- -> photographers apporved of this guys shots (& we let him know).
- ->
- -> The point is some photogs might
- -> not show appropriate behavior at a scene. That is a problem with an
- -> individual photographer not photographers in general. You know....
- -> kind of like the paramedic that gave all you EMT-Ps such a bad name.
- ->
- -> A good photog should exhibit certain standards of conduct at a
- -> scene.
- -> Ask permission when working near the action area.
- -> {from someone not working with the patient}
- -> Ask about any scene hazards I should know about (wires
- ect.)
- -> Ask where I can shoot from to stay out of rescuers way.
- -> (All these can work for you & the reponders)
- -> These are a few of the things a good photog will do to help you
- -> and help protect himself. In 1992 you are as likely to get sued
- -> as a photographer on a scene for obstructing, as you are as a
- -> responder for care administration. A photographer on a scene has
- -> to consider his personal liability for his actions there.
- -> The courts have proven that civil suits often have far removed
- -> defendants. Just one more reason to stay out of the way.

- I agree there on the point if you act like a pro. you will get alot
- more
- done then if you just plow your way into the scene with the attitude
- "I have the right to do what i want" you might not be takeing pictures
- for awile.
-
- I know of a fire call we had in Groveland, N.Y. where the whole faimly
- didnt make it out and come to find out it was a shooting + fire
- suicide.
- and the reporter that were there didnt give a hoot and were there for
- just the pictures and my brother almost got into fist fight with a
- camera man when he told the camera man to turn off the camera and
- remove
- himself from the scean till the investagatin was complete.
-
- this is a very good topic and maybe with a little luck a few people
- from
- both side can learn to work together with a lot less conflict.
-
- chat with you later on the mail roll around......JIM
