- Dear Folks,
-
- We are very excited to announce the national tour of Staying
- Healthy with HIV, a workshop that gives people with HIV/AIDS
- practical information about what they can do to stay healthy now.
-
- Participants in Staying Healthy with HIV become familiar with
- a variety of alternative medications, supported by scientific and
- anecdotal sources; dietary guidelines; stress management;
- prophylaxis for opportunistic infections; and how to understand and
- evaluate lab reports. The workshop can be presented as a two to
- three hour lecture/discussion with a focus on alternative
- medications, or as a day long course which examines the topics more
- thoroughly and includes experiential exercises exploring self-
- empowered healing, emotional and spiritual issues.
-
- David Baker is a masters-prepared R.N. who specializes in
- teaching health promotion to people with HIV. Richard Copeland is
- Managing Director of Healing Alternatives Foundation, the San
- Francisco BuyerUs Club. We have been developing Staying Healthy
- with HIV for well over two years and have presented at hospitals,
- clinics and retreats. In addition, we presented the workshop at the
- 1992 AIDS, Medicine and Miracles Conference and, in poster format,
- at the VIII International AIDS Conference in Amsterdam.
-
- We are planning a low cost tour for March, April and May of
- 1993. Our goal is to reach over six hundred people with HIV/AIDS,
- and care providers, in twenty-five cities in the U.S. and Canada. We
- plan to present the workshop for free or perhaps a nominal charge.
- Staying Healthy with HIV is a project of the Center for Natural and
- Traditional Medicines, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. We are
- submitting proposals to receive funding from several sources.
-
- To facilitate tactical planning in each locale, we will need
- help from local contacts:
- 1) to arrange a facility for the workshop,
- 2) to advertise; through fliers at AIDS agencies and medical
- facilities, listings in local newspapers, and word-of-mouth,
- including outreach to minority communities,
- 3) to arrange access to computers with modems during our stay,
- 4) to arrange a host who can provide lodging and some meals,
- 5) to educate us about the specific needs of your community,
- 6) for funding. We are seeking additional sources, either locally to
- support a workshop in your city, or for general funding of the tour.
-
- If you would like to help, or for further information, please
- write or call us. Or pass this letter on to individuals or
- organizations who may be interested. Thank you.
-
- Sincerely,
-
- David Baker & Richard Copeland
