- tremendous growth of environmental partnerships
- for trees and to introduce the winner of the
- first Geo Award for Environmental Excellence for
- the outstanding local tree organization and Global
- ReLeaf's award for individual environmental action.

- Reporters are invited to the day-long meeting with scientists,
- business executives and environmentalists as they examine the crucial
- role of partnerships in reconciling environmental improvement and a
- healthy economy. Paul Solman, business reporter for the
- MacNeil/Lehrer Newshour, will lead a roundtable discussion at
- 2:30 p.m. A banquet and awards ceremony will begin at 7:30 p.m.
- -- all at the Willard Hotel. Sergei Goryachev, morning news anchor
- for Moscow One Television, is the keynote speaker.
- The Geo Award for Environmental Excellence was created by the
- Chevrolet Geo Division of General Motors, American Forests and the
- U.S. Forest Service to annually recognize the exemplary tree group.
- The Global ReLeaf Jean Giono Award for individual achievement is
- sponsored for the third year by Chelsea Green Publishing of Vermont.
- American Forests is the nation's oldest citizen's conservation
- organization and creator of Global ReLeaf, the international
- education and action tree-planting campaign that is pioneering
- public/private partnerships for the environment.
