  25. If you're running xdm you can add the following to your
  26. /usr/lib/X11/xdm/xdm-config file:

  28. DisplayManager*setup:           xv -root -max -quit name_of_gif_file
  29.  
  30. This will cause the gif file to be displayed as a background to the
  31. xdm login window and for the remainder of the session, unless the user
  32. overrides this with another xv or xsetroot upon logging in.
