- If you're running xdm you can add the following to your
- /usr/lib/X11/xdm/xdm-config file:

- DisplayManager*setup: xv -root -max -quit name_of_gif_file

- This will cause the gif file to be displayed as a background to the
- xdm login window and for the remainder of the session, unless the user
- overrides this with another xv or xsetroot upon logging in.
