- I would like a way of contacting you about the system and changes to it.
- If you have never logged in but requested a login, your password
- will almost certainly be '.'
- (".")
- change it asap
- this is not a secure system. UIDS and passwords are only for convenience
- so we can tell which mail comes from who.
-
- while I'm on, I might as well give the following 'roundup'
- of activities on ref:
-
- we are setting up mail aliases (maybe a list server later) to
- co-ordinate people porting packages to 386bsd. If you wish to port any
- package to 386bsd
- then log on (as guest will do) and check the files /etc/workgroups
- and /var/lib/aliases.
-
- If a workgroup exists for your package, or special 386bsd related interest,
- add yourself (1 user per line) to the appropriate
- file in /usr/aliases.
-
- New workgroups and aliases may be added by any user wanting to
- do so.
-
- A MUD will be set up containing a number of 'Meeting rooms'
- to allow people to take part in 'multi-way' discussions regarding 386bsd and
- package related matters. This MUD will not be an adventure and
- I ask you to not extend it to be such. It is a facility for allowing
- development on 386bsd to be easier.
-
- to get yourself on a mailing list if you do not have internet access,
- mail to julian@ref.tfs.com for now.
-
- Interest groups so far include:
-
- kernel: (generic)
- kernel: (Isolan/Isolink drivers) /sys/i386/isa/if_is.c
- Xfree86
- xvgr:
- mathlib:
- ghostscript:
- ghostview:
- xfract:
- gcc:
- libg++:
- binutils:
- make:
- xview:
- ftptool:
- archie: version 1.4.1
- elm:
- mush:
- uemacs:
- codrv: (Console replacement driver with special X386 support)
- tf: 2.0.beta6
- less: version 48
-
- also: zip, unzip, and zip utilities (unknown persons)
-
- I expect each of these to develop a separate mailing list.
-
- things we still need:
- a more complete MAN system that can handle nroff format man pages.
- as well as cat format pages.
-
- someone who really understands list servers.
- a MUD expert.
