- Sorry if this is a FAQ, but I'm new and haven't seen a FAQ posted yet.
-
- I'm having problems with rcp from an SGI box to AIX. For some strange
- reason rcp wants to truncate (!?) files after they're copied. If it can't
- (like when the source file is write-protected) I get a message:
-
- lace08 38> rcp bach:/r/simulation/fsset/mstage/\* .
- rcp: /r/simulation/fsset/mstage/1.0p: not a plain file
- rcp: /r/simulation/fsset/mstage/1.4: not a plain file
- rcp: /r/simulation/fsset/mstage/1.6: not a plain file
- rcp: can't truncate ./Makefile: Permission denied
- rcp: /r/simulation/fsset/mstage/SCCS: not a plain file
- rcp: can't truncate ./apsolv.f: Permission denied
-
- I don't have any problems with 'not a plain file', those are directories;
- but what's with this truncate stuff? Note that the entire file _does_ get
- copied. Also, the above example attempt got hung after 4 of 114 files.
- I had to cancel the command with control-c to get a prompt again.
-
- For whatever it's worth, I don't have this problem with other brands of UN*X
- on other boxes. And here's uname output if that helps:
-
- lace08 41> uname -a
- AIX lace08 2 3 000012395C00
