- As a follow up to the first response to this post, I would like to add,
- that if you're looking for multi-tasking, you can do it with your current
- system at a decent speed. Try PC/GEOS...aka Geoworks Ensemble. It's a
- windows alternative that requries at least an 8088, 512K RAM, CGA or
- higher..though CGA will be monochrome due to lo rez...and a Hard disk with
- at least 4 megs free....I'd have 6 megs free to be safe. It doesn't run
- windows and won't multi-task DOS programs, but it does come bundled with
- several applications that are much better than what comes with Windows
- (ie. you don't pay a lot extra to get decent apps)...and soon, 2.0 of
- GEOS will be out along with a whole slew of third party apps....this is a
- multi-threaded, pre-emptive object oriented multitasking GUI environment.
-
- It has very tight coding (unlike some GUI's) and takes your computer and
- makes it do things you'd never think it could dream of doing. Ask around
- at software shops for it...try Sears...there's a $9.90 demo available too.
- Ask in comp.os.msdos.geos if you have more queations about it.
-
- Sorry about the "almost commercial" here, but I'm a very happy and
- satisfied customer of GEOS and this guy sounds like he's looking for a
- boost in computer power without forking out too much $'s. Also, GEOS will
- scream on a 386 once you do get one.
