- This gets to an interesting question: what is the cost of a
- *stand alone* system ? The information I have seen says that the price
- comes with a single user RTU (right to use) and the machine DOES NOT
- come loaded with an OS. This seems to imply that I have to buy a CD
- ROM drive and a Solaris 2.1 CD ROM. How much does this cost?
- Furthmore, from what I have seen, it isn't clear if I can load Solaris
- 2.1 onto the HD permanently. If this were the case, I guess I could
- borrow the CD ROM drive and the Solaris CD ROM and install the system
- once and for all. Does any one know the answer to this question ? Some
- other questions that I haven't seen the answer to are :
-
- 1) What is the length of the warranty (sp?) on the Classic ?
- The blurbs I have say 1yr on the LX but say nothing about the
- Classic.
-
- 2) What SCSI devices are supported by Solaris 2.1?
- Will a generic SCSI QIC tape drive work for backup purposes?
- Will a generic SCSI CD ROM drive work for initial OS booting?
-
- 3) How much slower is the screen for the Classic compared to the LX ?
-
- 4) How "good" is the 15" monitor ?
- On a related topic, it appears that the LX can display N x M
- "pixel" screeens where N and M can have several values while
- the Classic displays only 1024 x 768 @ 76Hz independent of the
- attached monitor. Did I read this right?
-
- 5) Finally, on a more cynical note, when does Solaris 2.1.1 show up?
