  25. Not sure what SCSI-2 SBus module you are refering to here. However
  26. my company has been supplying add-in SCSI-2 SBus products for over
  27. a year and we have seen most of the issues at one time or another.
  28. There is really no issue with OS 4.1.2 or 4.1.3 with our products
  29. (there maybe with Sun's recent SCSI-2 SBus product release). The 
  30. real issues have to do with drives (as you might expect some of
  31. the new FAST drives perform better than others), single ended vs
  32. differential operation (the traditional single-ended works well with
  33. one or two drives on the SCSI-2 bus... beyond this number consider
  34. differential) and good attention to cable and termination details 
  35. (the SCSI-2 bus timing is much more critical than the slower SCSI-1).

  37. You can see some impressive performance improvements in many 
  38. applications by adding a SCSI-2 SBus interface and a SCSI-2
  39. FAST disk to SPARCstations. But as noted above the OS is not
  40. the area where you need to pay attention to details...at least
  41. not with our products. Be happy to forward you info on SCSI-2 SBus
  42. modules and a recent write-up we completed for our users on specific
  43. details that apply to operating reliability with SCSI-2 FAST.
