- Note that the "multi threading" you are referring to means the multi-threaded
- kernel. This kernel is in SunOS 5.0 and up. Multi-threading applications
- is already possible with SunOS 4.1.x, with the light-weight process library.

-
- The definitive answer is:
- - SunOS 4.1.2 and 4.1.3 support multiple Ross chips.
- These are the Cypress processors used in the first Mbus card.
- They are available in the 6x0MP models, *not* in the SS10.
-
- - This support uses a single-threaded kernel, creating a
- performance bottleneck for most usages. One notable exception
- I encountered is the Progress database. It's code runs almost
- entirely in user context.
-
- - The new TI Viking chips used in the -20, -30, -41 and -5x
- models are only supported in single processor configurations
- by SunOS 4.1.3. This is probably a marketing decision.
-
- - The only supported multiprocessor Viking configurations
- are the -52 and the -54, as far as I know. At least there
- is not model -42 in my pricelist.
-
- - These configurations are supported by SunOS 5.1 and later.
- SunOS 5.1 is a part of Solaris 2.1 (along with OpenWindows
- and Deskset 3.1).
-
- - While we are at it, the TI Tsunami processor is also supported
- starting with SunOS 5.1. If you still haven't heard about this
- processor, wait till next week.

-
- As far as I know, for this kind of an application, a four processor
- 6x0MP with SUnOS 4.1.[23] can be slower than a two processor model.
