  16. I have the following problem with an application written in SunView(!)
  17. which runs on SUN SPARCstations (2 and 10):
  18. After several windows (~8) are opened, the creation of the next window
  19. is denied with the following message:

  21. >> Couldn't open window placeholders: Too many open files
  22. >> /dev/win55 would not open (be created)(errno = 24)
  23. >> no more windows available
  24. >> WIN ioctl number 1c: Too many open files
  25. >> window: Window creation failed to get new fd
  26.  
  27. and the application crashes. Therefore I have the following questions:

  29. - Is there a system variable for the possible number of open files/windows? If yes,
  30. can this number be increased without getting into trouble?
  31. - Can this error be handled internally (by the application)? If yes, how?
