  13. PALO ALTO, CA, USA October 27, 1992 - Today RightBrain Software began
  14. shipping PasteUp, the first page layout program completely built from
  15. the ground up with object oriented technology and Display Postscript.

  17. PasteUp is a full-featured design and layout package providing
  18. sophisticated text-handling, drawing tools, and layout features.
  19. PasteUp supports the drag-and-drop metaphor for colors, imported
  20. files, graphic styles, and text styles. Display PostScript allows
  21. page editing at output resolution and provides on screen previews of
  22. color separated film. PasteUp has built-in spell checking and
  23. hyphenation in 9 languages, full text runaround, left and right
  24. master pages, page numbering, search and replace for colors as well
  25. as text, arbitrary rotation and skewing of all objects including
  26. text, grouping, locking, align and distribute, and a host of other
  27. features. PasteUp is intended for flexible page design and documents
  28. in the 1-to-100-page range, although its drawing tools,
  29. word-processing features, and ease of use make it appropriate for all
  30. short document needs.

  33. industrial-strength publishing application, but is much faster and
  34. easier to use," said Glenn Reid, president and founder of RightBrain
  35. Software. "We've also added some sophisticated features like
  36. automatic drop shadows for any object, a thumbnail page navigator, an
  37. arrowhead editor that lets you customize the shapes of arrowheads,
  38. and copy/paste of graphic attributes."

  40. PasteUp also has automatic "smart punctuation" that will replace
  41. straight quotes with typographic quotes, double hyphens with
  42. emdashes, insert fi and fl ligatures, and even transpose the period
  43. inside double quotes at the end of a quotation. Smart punctuation
  44. works with text import as well as during typing, which greatly
  45. simplifies the process of importing text from other sources without
  46. having to search and replace all the quotes and ligature
  47.
