  16. Occasonally, my hard drive (internal 330 MB, original cube) has failed to start  
  17. up (no whirring sound and the machine doesn't boot).  I used the ROM monitor  
  18. bsd command, and it said "Waiting for drive to get ready......................"
  19. and again, it never booted.

  21. This doesn't always happen, but it's annoying.  When I power off my cube and  
  22. turn it on again, everything is fine and the hard drive powers up.

  24. Sometimes, it powers up alright but I hear the whirring die down and then pick  
  25. up again -- under these circumstaces, the machine boots but the hard drive  
  26. noise shouldn't die and come back like that.

  32. P.S.  OD question: do all NeXT internal OD's supplied with the original cubes  
  33. eventually die after a while, or is it possible to have an OD running without  
  34. problems for 4 or more years?
