- I had an oddly related experience recently: my system file became corrupt on
- my powerbook 100 while I was connected to an SE/30 via SCSI (I probably did it
- wrong). The floppy drive was not connected. As such, when I tried to boot up
- I got the "Insert Disk" icon, but couldn't put in a valid system disk. Also, I
- couldn't shut the thing down (no "off" button). So, after a few moments
- consideration (mulling over insurance claims and warranty problems), I
- unplugged the scsi cable (while the machine was on) and plugged in the floppy
- drive.
-
- Kids, do not attempt this at home.
-
- I managed to reinstall a working system, and the PowerBook seems none the worse
- for wear, despite unplugging SCSI and inserting the floppy cable while it was
- powered up. I don't plan on doing that often, but the machine seems pretty
- robust.
