  12. Disk spin-up time can be a problem for older drives (ie 5.25" likely
  13. have a problem as start up drive.) The is a parameter defines how long
  14. the Mac will wait/try to start from the startup drive before displaying
  15. the question mark. I don't recall the name of any utility that allows one
  16. to set the startup drive delay time - though I know I have seen one...

  18. Any 3.5" drive, especially if recently purchased, would likely spin up
  19. fast enough to avoid missing the Mac's initial signals to the drive.

  21. Try the drive with another SE or later. The Plus may accentuate the problem
  22. but go ahead and try that if available. If you see no problem with your drive
  23. and someone elses drive then consider sending the drive back ASAP.

  25. I have seen brand new drives that refuse to work with the Plus but work
  26. with all later Macs.
