- Hi,
- I've had problems with my PB 170 since I purchased it in mid-August.
- Weird disk problems (invalid volume info, applications quitting
- unexpectedly in a random fashion) which Apple and my local dealer
- attributed to software incompatibilities were eventually traced to a bad
- hard disk, but I'm still having problems with software becoming corrupted
- and causing applications to quit unexpectedly. The PB 170 is great if it
- works, but I've begun to think fondly of my reliable old SE with 1 MB of
- RAM. I'd try to get the 180, if I were you; hardware and software are
- similar in that manufacturers inevitably fix problems in later versions
- (although they also tend to introduce new ones).
- I'd appreciate hearing from other people whose 170s have been less than
- reliable. Someone on the net mentioned that his PB 100 had never failed
- him, while his friend's 170 had broken down no less than 7 times!
- Yours truly,
- Marc Bizer (mlbizer@bongo.cc.utexas.edu)
