- Hi David,
- I was in the market for the best 16" monitor, and I bought a NEC 5FG (uses an
- INVAR shadow mask). But, I sent it back and got a refund because, for me, the
- resolution was much poorer than COMPARED to the Apple (Sony) 13" trinitron
- monitor I still use. I HIGHLY recommend you check out the NEC picture quality
- (too grainy for me) before you purchase one. It also has a VERY strange
- feature which reduces and increases the brightness of the screen depending on
- what is on the screen. I really did not like that. I would turn up the
- brightess and the monitor would sense it being too bright and dim it! On this
- last point (called gray linearity) see page 259 in the Sept 92 issue of MacWorld.
- If I were to buy a 16" monitor, it would DEFINITELY be a trinitron tube (it
- is hard to go away from trinitron razor sharp picture after you have gotten
- use to them), and most likely be the E-Machines T16 II.
- Since I got an Apple 8*24 display card, I have been able to use MaxAppleZoom
- utility to make my 13" into a 14", and find that I really do not need a 16", -
- at least not for now.
- Hope this is helpful. Regards, Tom.
