  13. Well, I got a few different replies on how to download OzTeX from midway, but
  14. they all boil down to this:

  16. 1 - Download all the .hqx files in ASCII ftp format
  17. 2 - Change to BINARY format (on the ftp system on our mainframe, you just type
  18.     'binary')
  19. 3 - Download the .sit files (the PKXXX.SIT files are the ones you really need)
  20.     the same way as .hqx files (using mget or just get)
  21. 4 - Disconnect from the ftp site
  22. 5 - Download the .hqx files to your Mac (using Versaterm, Microphone II, etc)
  23.     by using a TEXT/ASCII format for your protocol (Kermit, Xmodem, Ymodem,
  24.     etc)
  25. 6 - Download the .sit files to your Mac (using same as above) by using a
  26.     BINARY format for your protocol (again, using one of the ones from above)
  27. 7 - Use Compactor or StuffIt to decode the .hqx files, which will then result
  28.     in .sit files which you can directly open from Compactor or StuffIt.
  29. 8 - Use a program like MacBinary (obtainable from nic.funet.fi in the pub/mac/
  30.     comm directory) to "filter" the "binary" file you downloaded to a proper
  31.     Macintosh binary file.
  32. 9 - Now, use Compactor or StuffIt (if the files don't show up in the Open
  33.     windows of EITHER program, hold down the Option key before highlighting
  34.     the Open option) to uncompress the .sit files.

  36. That should do it...I tried it and it worked ok.

  46. DirectTex - Shareware (for $100) TeX - better than OzTeX because it has BibTeX,
  47.         Metafont, MakeIndex, etc
  48.         Available from : Niord.SHSU.edu
  49.             OR : ymir.claremont.edu
  50.         (you may want to check Archie for it because it is supposedly
  51.          pretty new)

  53. Textures - Commercial TeX - best used from opinions of other users
  54.        (student price is $195 US - they take Master/Visa and will ship
  55.         UPS - call for more details)
