- Well, I got a few different replies on how to download OzTeX from midway, but
- they all boil down to this:
-
- 1 - Download all the .hqx files in ASCII ftp format
- 2 - Change to BINARY format (on the ftp system on our mainframe, you just type
- 'binary')
- 3 - Download the .sit files (the PKXXX.SIT files are the ones you really need)
- the same way as .hqx files (using mget or just get)
- 4 - Disconnect from the ftp site
- 5 - Download the .hqx files to your Mac (using Versaterm, Microphone II, etc)
- by using a TEXT/ASCII format for your protocol (Kermit, Xmodem, Ymodem,
- etc)
- 6 - Download the .sit files to your Mac (using same as above) by using a
- BINARY format for your protocol (again, using one of the ones from above)
- 7 - Use Compactor or StuffIt to decode the .hqx files, which will then result
- in .sit files which you can directly open from Compactor or StuffIt.
- 8 - Use a program like MacBinary (obtainable from nic.funet.fi in the pub/mac/
- comm directory) to "filter" the "binary" file you downloaded to a proper
- Macintosh binary file.
- 9 - Now, use Compactor or StuffIt (if the files don't show up in the Open
- windows of EITHER program, hold down the Option key before highlighting
- the Open option) to uncompress the .sit files.
-
- That should do it...I tried it and it worked ok.
-
- Also, here is a list of the sources I received from numerous people:
-
- OzTeX - Public domain TeX/LaTeX compiler/viewer
- Available from : ftp site midway.uchicago.edu
- pub/OzTeX/oztex directory
- Also available from : ftp site askhp.ask.uni-karlsruhe.de
- (can't remember the directory name)
-
- DirectTex - Shareware (for $100) TeX - better than OzTeX because it has BibTeX,
- Metafont, MakeIndex, etc
- Available from : Niord.SHSU.edu
- OR : ymir.claremont.edu
- (you may want to check Archie for it because it is supposedly
- pretty new)
-
- Textures - Commercial TeX - best used from opinions of other users
- (student price is $195 US - they take Master/Visa and will ship
- UPS - call for more details)
- Available from : Blue Sky Research, Portland, Oregon
- 1-800-622-8398
-
