- Hi everyone,
-
- This may be a FAQ, here goes anyway.
-
- The other day while I was at the computer store I saw a Cyrix FasMath
- co-processor for notebooks, it was 2.7 volt and claims to conserve power.
- This sounds excellent. The price for the Cyrix was $79. They also had an
- Intel co-processor for $89. These prices seem pretty good for the
- performance gain.
-
- What is the general opinion in regards to co-processors? I know they will
- speed up floating point calculations, meaning they will help CAD, spread-
- sheets, scientific, and accounting programs but can they help other types
- of applications? None of my application manuals mention if they support
- co-processors. I mainly run windows, word processing, C and Basic programming,
- and communications on my notebook. Somehow I don't think a co-processor would
- help me but I'm curious.
-
- If co-processors are a good bet, is the Cyrix worthwile. Is it fully
- compatible with intel cpu's. Or should I go with Intel, the price isn't
- that far apart.
-
- Thanks for any info,
- Chuck (charles.chao@channel1.com)
