- I have a 386-33 clone system with a persistent problem: at odd times, it
- reports that it has only 1 meg installed, rather than the 4 meg that's REALLY
- in there. The problem usually works as follows: the system freezes, and
- when I reboot, it reports that memory size is incorrect; that there's only
- one meg. I can "fix" it by inserting a memory board with a few K onboard,
- and the increase in mem seems to kick the system out of it's "forgetful"
- state, whereupon it "remembers" that there's 4 meg installed. Problem
- solved - for now. This happens at random intervals, usually after an hour
- or more on constant use, but not always. Sometimes it happens when I first
- turn the system on, and other times I can use the system all day with no
- problems...anyone got some idea what the &%$#! is wrong? I've ripped out
- everything but the essential cards, made sure all the cards/chips were well
- seated, removed and reinstalled the memory simms, etc. Sometimes doing all
- this solves the prob <until the next time>, but usually not. Usually I have
- to pull the memory board trick, or wait for it to "remember" on its own...
- If you have ANY ideas, please let me know...I'm considering just
- buying a bare mbd and xferring the CPU and cache, but that's a little
- extreme...any help would be great
