- MG>a friend of mine uses PCTOOLS 7.1 with a 31MB-RLL-Harddisk. The disk is set
- MG>to type 2 in the CMOS-setup ( 614 cyln, 4 heads, 17 sectors, 20MB ). All
- MG>worked fine until PC-CACHE, SI or DISKFIX is started. PC-CACHE reports a
- MG>difference betwenn the bios-settings and the real settings, DISKFIX won't
- MG>analyze the disk and SI reports a 59,4 MB disk with 781 cyln and 6 heads.
-
- MG>I tried to fix this problem with fdisk from DROS but it says 59,6 MB, too.
- MG>I thought, the settings for any harddisk is stored in the cmos and nowhere
- MG>else, but there must be some other place, because fdisk and si shows exactly
- MG>the same ( wrong ) values.
-
- MG>What could I do to repair this disk ?? DISKFIX reports a bad bootblock or
- MG>diagnostic-block, but all other programs work and the disk does boot.

- You don't say if its on a 286 or not. My 286 CMOS is set up with OUT the HD
- on it. I don't understand this but it works. It sees it when booting up and
- everything. It is a Seagate HD, I think. Someone was playing with my CMOS
- setup and put my HD in. It would NOT work when the HD was put on the CMOS.
- I don't understand it but I wont change any of the CMOS to show the HD. I
- sugjust not putting you HD in your CMOS. Maybe that will work, why I don't
- know, though. Any comments.
