  14.     Lately I've noticed (and its hard not to thesedays) that people
  15. are tending to move away from 256 color displays and into displays which
  16. have more bits of color, and basically I I'm extremely interested in
  17. such video cards.

  19.     Now, I know about the Sierra Hi-Color DACs, and I can buy a
  20. et4000 based clone card and plug in one of these DACs and get 15bit
  21. colour with a minimum of fuss and cost. What I want to know is:

  23.     Is there a VESA standard for Hi-Color modes, and if so is
  24. there a program for the et4000 cards to provide compatability with
  25. this? Also can Windows 3.1 use the Hi-Color modes?

  27.     Mostly what I'm interested in finding out about though, is
  28. the availability and type of 24 bit cards:

  30.       *    Is there a DAC you can plug in for 24bit color as with Hi-Color?
  31.       *    Considering I dont need a graphics accelerator, and am trying
  32.           to minimise cost (arent we all), what sort of 24 bit cards are
  33.         around?
  34.       *    Is there a VESA standard for 24bit color? Which boards support it?
  35.       *    Is there windows 3.1 support for 24bit color?
  36.       *    Is 24bit color worth the effort over Hi-Color, considering that
  37.     I'm not using it for commercial purposes, but for my own amusement
  38.     value and sense of aesthetics?
