- Is anybody doing/working on a single-handed data entry/retrieval system?
-
- I envision something akin to a stenographer's typewriter,
- where you hold down N keys to get the desired effect.
-
- With five fingers you should be able to get all the letters,
- a few bits of punctuation(space,period),
- and still have enough for some meta-keys...An escape for functions
- like:
- Second Character Set: Different next character set
- (1-9!@#$%&^&(*){}_+[];.,/'...etc)
- Upcase: Upcase next character
- Escape: Puts you in menu or edit mode, where the keys
- can either be, say, cursor-control (up,left, down, right and
- clock), or pick-list from a menu bar.
-
- It should also be very personally configurable, I want
- menu x y and z near the 'top' of the stack, and others down
- in submenus, etc, etc...And, I want a command line/file
- system and interconnectivity with multiple platforms.
-
- It should be four keys on `top' (I assume it won't be rectangular),
- and one on the bottom, for the thumb, maybe even a switch
- for the thumb, three position. It would have to be useable
- without looking, and probably have a beep. If it was designed
- correctly, you probably wouldn't get a hand-cramp.
-
- And it should do all those things a personal reminder does, etc,
- etc ad infinitum. And have a very readable screen.
-
- So? I'm making the assumption that this is completely a dream,
- so my next question is: Does anybody think this might be
- useful? I envision driving along in a car and using it to take
- down all those things you think about when driving along and suddenly
- have a great idea, but can't stop driving to pull out your
- 486 notebook PC running SysV and Emacs. I, personally, tried keeping a
- micro tape recorder around alot, but my problem is it didn't have
- enough bandwidth, and data retrevial was very slow, only twice as
- fast as the write time, which was bad also. And, I'm less comfortable
- speaking them I am typing.
-
- Just wonderin'
