-
- All HP calculators I have seen are built like tanks. The older
- calculators that have bulkier electronics, like the HP
- 33/34/35/45/55/65/67, have a particular feel of solidity. My HP
- 41CV is now 10 years old and perfectly functional (although now I
- use it only as a time standard after I got my HP 48SX; the HP 41
- time module has a self-correction feature that you have to do in
- software on the HP 48). However, time still does take its toll
- on even HP equipment, so it's not surprising to hear about an
- occasional failure.
-
- My over 20-year-old HP 9100A is also built like a tank, and
- weighs about as much as one, too :-). Since it's a desktop
- model, they used plenty of metal in the casing. It's had 20-some
- years of burn-in without failure so I'm expecting it to outlive
- me.
