- Racter was one of the first programs to show up on the shelves back in 1985
- as I recall, and I still have it floating around here somewhere. I'm not
- entirely sure how compatible it is, but since it's a text-only program, I'd
- give it a fair chance of working on newer machines/OS's.

- While is certainly is better than Eliza, I remeber that Racter grew rather
- repetitive after a while (all its responses were simple, nonrecursive
- patterns, rather like Mad Libs). Perhaps this is because the program was a
- downgraded version of the mainframe version (like Zork I) - in any case,
- the Racter I have certainly wasn't capable of writing a book as the original
- was claimed to have done.

- Then again, for a (relatively) cheap consumer product, it wasn't all that
- bad. I might be willing to give up my copy, though I'd have to boot it up
- again and make sure I didn't really want to keep it.
