-
- Memory Protection. In Unix the system's memory management unit protects
- processes from trashing each others memory, etc. So even though one
- program might crash it is pretty much guaranteed that it will not hose
- any other processes (esp. those that are started as part of the OS!) and
- thus it is still safe/possible to allow the other processes on the
- system to continue. The Amiga's OS does not do this and there are a
- number of reasons that it does not. (One of which is that the base
- models' 68000 processor does not have an MMU!)
-
- Whether adding MP is feasible or worthwhile is a frequent topic of
- debate in some of the Amiga newsgroups.
-
- You can get limited memory protection if you have an Amiga with an MMU
- by using the 'enforcer' program which protects certain memory locations
- which are guaranteed to be illegal to access. This is especially useful
- for program development and the 'enforcer' program is freely available
- via ftp.
